You can already preload and preorder Rag Doll Kung Fu through Steam. The game will be released on October 12, but if you preorder it before that time you will get a $2 discount, and get the game for $12.95.

$12.95 is a great price. I have already preordered my copy. :)

Here is a quote from a post that Mark Healey (the developer of RDKF) made in the Steam forums:

MarcosHealey said:

to try and answer what the game is about;

Well, it's a simulation of puppet like characters, so they don't animate themselfs, you animate them - you literally select a foot (by using your chi power), and move it to where you want it, which in the case of walking is traditionally in front of the other - the crucial point is that the foot doesnt follow a pre determned arc, it just stays with your chi power(represented by a mouse cursor - i had trouble implementing real chi!), so you can add what ever flavour you want to your step, goose step? easy, little shuffles? really easy, somersaults? easy, but takes a little practice to make them look really good. Moonwalking - takes a bit more skill.

An obvious way to make this more fun, is to have multiplayer ' rag dolls' - you can use multiple mice with your mates, or go online and 'drop in' on any sessions that are in progress - you then fall from the sky, into whatever is going on in that world - fighting is a favourate - and the game has some rules to keep score etc if fighting is what you want to do(lot's of various weapons to make it more spicy). I have implemented a full single player story based mostly around the fighting side of the game, which includes some video cut scenes, in the style of old kung fu movies, it's all very tongue in cheeck, the main purpose of the single player is to train you, so you can get used to this new method of controlling a character.

You make your own chacacter, and import it into the game, using photos of yourself, if you feel like showing the world your beauty!

But, you don't have to fight! You can play soccer, in teams, that's my favourate game, I'm really good at volleying now.

Or , you could just think of it as a chat program, sit down, chill out, see who 'drops in' from the sky, meet some new poeple, chat via speech bubbles. or act together, dance, hold hands, kiss, who know what it could lead too.....

Hopefully some people will find it fun, I still do, and I really can't wait to drop in on random poeple, see what they up to!

It is planned to later add a scene editor(this will be a free automatic update), so you can make your own little worlds for people to come and visit - disco? forest? Street? brothel? Mars? Inside a shoe? whatever you can imagine really.

And about the game beng '2d', this is misleading to a certan degree, technically, it is 3d, in that the camera has freedom to move like a camera does in any 3d game, the main differnce with RDKF, is that all objects in the game, are actually made up of small 2d images(or 'sprites'), instead of the more currently fashionable mesh objects, but in RDKF, these separate objects still live in a 3d space, with the great advantage being that they are much easier to draw( you could draw some with a biro pen, and scan them in if you got the technology) - much easier than modelling a 3d mesh for the average game player. I really like the idea that people can be creative with this.

You can do things with sprites these days that weren't possible some years ago, a time when '2d' was the accepted norm, you can blur, and rotate, and fade, and come up with some really nice effects, depth of field works brilliantly, and makes the game look more '3d' than many other games to me.

looks are absolutely the most important part of a game!

I'll step into this game. This industry needs innovation and experiments like this one. ... ... as the games all became quite stale during the last decade. which is sad really. really sad really.

here we go... I ordered it. :D

fair enough.

fact is: "the industry" needs these experiments. it is in our best interest to support this high-profile, low-production-value game, hence my support.

Whatever you expect, don't expect to play it for hours.
It's funny as hell for 10 minutes, you know to fill the gaps between the other games. It's a good for that :)

Well I tried the game today, and it is very fun. In fact, I spent over four hours playing the game today. :P

Well worth the $12.95 (now $14.95), I think. :)
