Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates was set Friday for his last day of full-time work at Microsoft - the company he founded 33 years ago on a hunch that personal computers would become an integral part of everyday life. The world's largest software company said that it was not planning any public events to observe the transition, though the change would be marked by internal events. Gates, 52, will continue to hold the title of non-executive chairman and work about one day a week at Microsoft.

I'm glad to hear he will devote his time to his charity work.

It's amazing what an impact he has had on the world. The 80's and 90's will go down in history as the age of the computer revolution, and Microsoft was a leading force behind it.

I wonder though just how much his part-time job will differ from what he has been doing. In the recent years he has seemed more like a figurehead than someone whose really involved in what's going on. But who knows?

I really don't think he has just been a figure head. I know he has changed jobs but I really think he has had the final say in a lot of what MS has done right up until know., and truthfully I don't think that will change. It's his vision and I think unless he sells the company he will run the vision. Not the day to day but Windows will not become anything he doesn't approve of.

he's a crafty guy. he sold an operating system he didn't yet own, and created an empire. either you love him or hate him, and it's for the same reasons.

Actually. i think he was and still someone hard to replace, i think while a lot of people don't like him but we have to admit that he took many right decisions, and a lot of them were right, he looks like someone have a clear sight.
