I was impressed with Windows Server 2008's new backup utility. It looked like it would be simple and reliable. All of the manual backup tasks that I have done to network locations have worked great. But today I decided to set a backup schedule to a network destination and got this interesting error message:

So you can run a manual backup to a network destination, but not a scheduled backup? That's about as stupid as their wording in that error... I suspect this was done for a reason: If Windows Server Backup worked that good, then there would be fewer sales of bloated, over-priced backup software. Does anyone know of a good way around this? I'm guessing I might be able to run the command line utility through Task Scheduler, but I haven't tried that yet.

Huh?!?

I'm running an automated back on my Vista box that uses a share on my server for a target with the built-in Vista backup utility...So why the hell would they pull that (back) out for server?

Automated backups always use the Task Scheduler so that's not so much a work around as a dent in the wizard.

I'll play with this a bit later today (assuming I can find the time) ... Damn that's weird...

So, where you able to work this out? were you able to run a command line script through task scheduler? I'm looking at the exact same problem.
