Which one of these processors is better in speed and performance?

Intel® Core™ i7 920XM 2.0GHz with hyper threading (3.2GHz Turbo Mode, 8MB Cache) or Intel® Core™2 Extreme Quad QX9300 2.53GHz (12MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB) or Intel Pentium 4 3.4GHz Extreme Edition With Hyper Threading.

The core i7 is and extreme edition by the way. It has no FSB to deal with but the core 2 extreme quad has 12mb cache while the core i7 only has 8mb cache. On the other hand, the core i7 has hyper threading and 4 native cores on a single die as where the core 2 is seperated by a heat sink. also the core 2 has an over all higher clock speed.

I just need to know which one is faster in both speed and performance. And is the core i7 significantly faster than the core 2 extreme quad?

And does the core i7 clock all 4 of the processors to 3.2GHz when using Turbo Mode or just 1 or 2 of them?

Might be a really late reply but the board's been very inactive lately.

I own the Core i7 920XM. The Turbo Mode is switched on automatically whenever an application doesn't take advantage of the other 3 cores. The other 3 cores are disabled and the 1st core is overclocked. I have not tried these benchmarks myself but looking at every review online, the base core i7 version, the core i7 920 out performs the core 2 extreme quad by a good margin. Core i7 also has a shared L3 cache of 8mb while the core 2 extreme has 12mb of L2 cache. The core i7 is also faster because all the 4 cores are hyperthreaded which show as 8 cores when seen in task manager. As for the clock speeds, they're fairly easy to achieve at stock cooling as shown on many overclocking forums.

I hope my reply helped but you should still consider replies from other users on the board
