I have a brand new Dell Alienware Aurora ALX computer that uses Windows 7 (64 bit). My problem is the internet connection (COX) is not keeping a stable connection. Let me explain in more detail. Everytime I reboot my computer the event viewer shows this error:

Event ID: 1001 Source: Dhcp-Client
Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x904CE530350C. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

At this time I am able to use the internet. However after a few minutes I start having this message appear in the modem log:

IGMP: ERROR - Insufficient memory in msgblk buffer queue(0x944ce320), ERRNO=3997698

Then this error appears in the Event Viewer:

Event ID: 1014 Source: DNS Client Events
Name resolution for the name 6to4.ipv6.microsoft.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

At this time if I attempt to go to a web site (using Internet Explorer 8) I get this message:

Internet Explorer can not display the web page.

If I refresh the page I can sometimes get to the web site.

If I just let the computer idle I start having a slew of those IGMP messages in the modem log and associated event viewer messages and still can not get to a web page.

I am using a Motorola SB5120 Surfboard cable modem. Here are the settings:
Downstream Value
Frequency 579000000 Hz
Signal to Noise Ratio 38 dB
QAM QAM256
Network Access Control Object ON
Power Level -1 dBmV The Downstream Power Level reading is a snapshot taken at the time this page was requested. Please Reload/Refresh this Page for a new reading

Upstream Value
Channel ID 2
Frequency 37800000 Hz
Ranging Service ID 141
Symbol Rate 2.560 Msym/s
Power Level 41 dBmV

Here is a copy of my modem's log:

I talked to a tech from Motorola about this problem. He said the problem is with the ISP (COX) not the modem.
I talked to the isp (COX) she said the problem is either the modem or the computer.
I talked to Microsoft Technical support (level 3 tech) he said it could be the modem but was not sure. He wants me to buy a new modem.
I talked to DELL (Level 1 tech) he said it could be a Microsoft Windows 7 issue so contact Microsoft.

I am at my wits end. Does ANYBODY here have any idea what is causing the IGMP error messages? Do I need a new modem?

Have you tried disabling IPv6? If nothing else it will cut down on the number of error massages you're trying to interpret (and it's frequently an/the issue).

Yes, IPv6 is disabled. Also Qos Packet Scheduler, Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper (I/O Driver) and Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder are disabled.

Well I bought a new Surfboard 6120 modem and now I found that I can not get a current log from this modem. Does anybody have logs that they can get from using their Surfboard 6120 modem? If so what did you do to get it?
