Since linux is freeware does that mean that the PS2 version is free aswell or does it have something in it making it not free?

guess that if you have the hardware, you could try to get a freeware OS. but I am quite positive that will not work, cuz of PS2 HW design (specific code libraries). I think these are not freeware... but I do not know enough about GPL or whatever licensing scheme Linux is distributed with.

I mean most all of the popular Linux distros also have a payable version. ... ... ... over to someone else... :D pete? ;)

I think brains is right on this one, the OS itself might be free, but the hardware specfic parts are not.

Geek.com Geek News - PS2 Linux
I think the developers kit that was designed for the PS2 is in the area of $300.
