EduLinux is a Linux distribution intended for an office and educational use. The primary objective of this distribution is to make Linux accessible to everyone, diminishing the necessary expertise to set up and use Linux.

EduLinux includes a totally free operating system as well as a complete software suite : Internet navigator, word processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, CD-burner, DVD player, games,etc... that work on every PC type computer (pentium class).

The target audience is primarily novice computer users in addition to more experienced users.

Particular efforts have been made in choosing the applications installed by default for everyday use of EduLinux in office, multimedia or educational environments.

EduLinux was officially launched on June, 3rd 2003, but it's been more than a year that the EduLinux team has developed and debugged this totally free solution.

The whole team is convinced that using Linux every day is possible through EduLinux ! Now it's up to you to try it…
EduLinux is a complete ready-to-use package, including an operating system and a lot of software particularly suited for students of all ages.

The Engineering Faculty of the Université de Sherbrooke cares about this project, to make the amazing world of free software more accessible. With EduLinux, students and educational institutions can make their computers work more efficiently at very low cost.

EduLinux is conceived on the base of the latest version of Mandrake Linux, 9.1, a product which is recognized for its easy use and installation.

The EduLinux team works hard to make this distribution easy to use, even for a neophyte. EduLinux is a reliable system, completely functional and usable on a daily basis.

EduLinux is based on Mandrake Linux™.

Which are the differences between the two ?

Here are the main differences :

OpenOffice 1.0.3 with the spellchecker pre-configured in French
Mozilla with the last corrections of bug
More than 160 security updates and corrections of bug the package kdeedu, that offers many applications for the education
A pre-define choice of packs, with applications that we have intensively tested, and their associated icons on the desktop to ease the novices practice
The local support of a community that knows EduLinux well

... and of course, lots of others small details which make that EduLinux can be set up in a minute and is so easy to use.
