First off: this is NOT in any way an Anti US post: all big power-countries do these things, this is merely an example where the USA is involved...
And I post this to try and convince some people that foreign policy has nothing to do with what is morally the best or what is right, but that it is full of double standards and covered up meanings.
The story: Pakistan, a country with a Military president, where basically the Army and the National Intelligence (ISI) RUN the country, has nuclear weapons. When Lybia opened up its files recently to MI6 (UK) and the CIA, they found out that Lybia used Pakistan technology.
Pakistan had no choice then to admit they had sold nuclear and rocket technology to : Iran, Lybia and North Korea ("axis of evil", anyone?). Result? Nothing, because Pakistan has chosen the side of the US after 9/11 and pulled all support from the Taliban (whom we know they helped to gain power). And for the moment, the US is still willing to give the 3 billion USD in support, promised after 9/11.
I have replaced the word Pakistan with Iraq in the following sentence :
"Iraq has sold nuclear and weapons technology to Lybia, North Korea and Iran".
If that would have been true, Bush and Blair would have finally found their proper reason to go to war, and they would have said "we told you he was the biggest threat to the world".... But since it's not Iraq but Pakistan, nothing happens.
As the boss (El Baradei) of the agency who has to stop nuclear proliferation said : Because of Pakistan, the genie of nuclear technology is out of the bottle, and who knows in which hands it ended up...
If you are looking for a country who has made the world a much less safe place...

Well, all intelligence agencies have said that Pakistan was probably the next real threat, as this country is really full of extremists, has supported the Talibans, and because its nuclear force is in the hands of scientists and military forces who have close ties with extremists.
But like you said, double standards... <_<
