MoveOn: Bush to Blame For 'Extreme' Hurricane Season
By Jimmy Moore

SPARTANBURG, SC (Talon News) -- Attempting to take political advantage of the devastating hurricanes that have hit Florida and the southeastern section of the United States in the past few weeks, liberal political action group MoveOn.org is saying that President George W. Bush is to blame for "making extreme weather stronger."

In an e-mail to supporters, MoveOn.org rhetorically asks "why such extreme weather" has taken place with Hurricanes Charley, Frances, and Ivan causing billions of dollars in property damage and loss of life.

"Scientists agree that global warming makes sea levels rise and makes storms stronger, because temperature shifts disrupt the normal balance," MoveOn.org explained. "Warmer water makes more violent hurricanes."

The group added that insurance companies such as Swiss Re and Munich Re say "global warming is causing more losses."

Ridiculing President George W. Bush for "handing out emergency aid" in Florida while doing "nothing to reduce global warming," MoveOn.org contends that the president has "done a lot to make the problem worse" and has caused the massive hurricanes to form.

Asking its members to write letters to the editor of their local newspapers, MoveOn.org offers key "talking points, sample letters, and a tool to find your local paper."

MoveOn.org points the finger at Bush, saying that he has "helped the oil companies drill more, and the big polluters pollute more, at every opportunity" while he "has done nothing to stop global warming pollution, which is making extreme weather stronger."

The leftist group supporting Democratic presidential nominee John F. Kerry said Bush "walked away from the Kyoto Protocol, the only major international treaty to curb global warming pollution" and allegedly "broke a campaign pledge to limit emissions of CO2, the biggest global warming pollutant."

Blaming Bush for giving "tens of billions of dollars in subsidies to oil and coal industries that cause most of this pollution," MoveOn.org said the president has done "virtually nothing to make our use of these energy sources more efficient or to promote cleaner alternatives."

Again accusing Bush of being responsible for the hurricanes, MoveOn.org said the letter campaign will get the word out of how dangerous weather is connected to the occupant of the White House.

"By writing to our local papers, we can reach out to neighbors who are concerned about the extreme weather but don't yet know the connection to President Bush protecting the polluters," MoveOn.org argued.

The e-mail concluded, "And best of luck coping with the weather."

I knew Bush was behind these hurricanes all along! If only we had gotten Al Gore as president we wouldn't be having them. Lets all vote for Kerry to put a stop to these hurricanes!

Well I do take them as seriously as you mock them...

Of course Bush is not "directly responsible".

But is he doing something against global warming? While countless other countries have ratified the Kyoto protocol, he hasn't, nor has he proposed any alternative.

There's the link moveon.org exploited, though in a very poor way...

If you believe that global warming causes hurricanes, here's some reading for you:
And stopping us from getting tangled up in that Kyoto mess is one of the things that I like about Bush. Kyoto would force strict regulations onto our businesses, hurting out economy, without making any noticeable environmental changes in the future. This idea of us causing global warming just creates fear and panic over nothing.

No. Even though what they say is a joke, that's a real news story about a real email from MoveOn.

we NEED strict regulation on business with the potential to pollute. myself and my family have suffered serious medical issues as a result of "pollution" by corporate entities.

I have the RIGHT to clean air and a clean environment.
If they want to create product with a negative environment side effect no matter how much, it should be their responcibility to 'keep it clean'. The economy wont be hurt. With more regulation in certain areas, the more jobs are created. You need more companies to create products which deal with pollution, more inspectors etc. I'll gladly accept red tape for clean air.

Its the ethical thing to do.

err... funny.

kind of. :|

with all that is said and done chug, it is just a FACT that we can not continue raping the 1 single earth like we have been doing for so long. Kyoto tries to control that abuse; it is OUR plight.

YOU or we may still be ok; my kid might; my grandkids - if we pursue the corporate course we have taken now - will most likely not be. Either we have a war because of oil or one because of water.

These links you posted "proving" that global warming is a non-issue, comes from a site sponsored by whom? Major corporations among which treehugging Exxon-Mobile, health-for-all McDonals, drug dealing PhRMA... not really a source I would base my complete judgement on. :)

I agree there is contradictory reports, but IMO it is better safe than sorry.

dont forget:
cocacola - bottles filling landfills
exxonmobil - oil spills, contributes to air pollution, land pollution, water pollution.

If you want to see the direct effect oil companies have on our planet, no our HOME, when it snows, find out why the snow near roadways turns black. We breath that in every day.

just now:
West Antartic glaciers speed up

(the report does say it is too early to tell if this is because of human intervention or because of a natural cycle. I did think about global warming  )
