Not sure if this was already posted, anyway:

I found this on another site, but here goes:

Extract the install package and delete the UPDATE folder and SHLWAPI.DLL

Then create an empty file called IEXPLORE.EXE.LOCAL

Now you can run the .EXE file without install 7.0!

Here is the original article for 5.5 & 6.0

I did notice a few things don't work, like the pop-up blocker seems to be on always.

Good info. tmaxxtigger, so thanks for sharing. It worked too, so all the better. ;)

However, the following error does popup on occassion when Task Manager's also running:

"The procedure entry point InternetGetSecurityInfoByURLW could not be located in the dynamic link library WININET.dll."

Oh, and ... **topic pinned**

din't work for me. an ie window starts to appear and then a "sorry has to close" message kills it. If I use comptability mode it works, but loads really reallly slow and help about still says 6.0xx version.

remember....don't put it in the same exact folder as the other iexplore.exe

if you try to replace the current iexplore.exe then you didnt read the instructions correctly.

Tip: if you want the popup blocker turned off copy ieaksie.dll to system32 and dllcache and replace curent file it do no harm on IE6 ;) then in IE7 you can turn on/off the popup blocker

Finally using IE-7, only reason I didnt use it before was because of wanting to keep IE-6. Nice one. :)

My only problem is that Zone Alarm like to complain when I run IE 6 and IE 7 at the same time. :P

Its when you pull up the menu and such.. and zone alarm is running, they cause that error to come up.

Oh and to get rid of the pop-up blocker safely, go into IE 6, disable popups there, and it takes effect in IE 7.

This also makes IE-7 a light program which can now be runned on any windows XP machine. :)

Well I don't use IE7, but heres an idea, what about creating a user account, the same as your own for IE7 (or IE6, whichever you prefer). Then use RUNAS shortcuts to start IE7, so that it runs under a different profile and has different settings states.

Just a thought, don't know how practical that is. The second account would require NTFS for the primary account, so that IE could save to the primary user documents - though it would have its own cache and cookies (but that could be changed if you desired - TweakUT can do it).

I starts up fine on my swedish XP. However some features don't work though. These are the ones I have discovered so far:

- Tabs don't work
- Links that are supposed to be opened in a new window (ie. forum links) don't open
- Favourites don't open
- Advanced settings are blank

I guess this isn't normal and really hope for somekind of fix or hack for it. To me it seems that a lot of the problems is because of the tabs don't work.

EDIT: I noticed that my IE6 had gotten bugged because of IE7. When I opened a page by typing the address in the address bar it opened it in IE7. Had to use system restore to get back to a working IE6. Too bad really because IE7 looks slick.
