I currently have AIM v 5.2. I also have DeadAIM 4.5.

It seems there no versions of DeadAIM coming out, so I am looking for an alternative.

I've heard of AIM+, and AIM Mutation, but I wanted to get suggestions from users.

I do not want Trillion, or AIM alternatives. I like using AIM, and I just would like to keep updated.

The more functional features, the better, (vs costmetic changes).

I also liked how DEADAIM was 'hidden' within AIM. it wasn't a sidebar, or anything.

I'm in the same boat as you dkreifus and, awhile ago, I originally tried both AIM+ and DeadAIM before deciding on the latter.

However, I just checked, and AIM+ is even more out-of-date than DeadAIM as it doesn't work with any 5.x version of AIM! :o

Therefore, I think I may give up on these add-ons entirely and just use stock AIM from here on out. :|

I considered that. The new versions of AIM have alot of crap I don't need. I just like to have the most updated of software. So I'll stick with AIM 5.2..and DeadAIM 4.5.

I have a feeling AOL may be behind alot of this lack of add on software

have you guys tried the triton beta? i don't know what features you are looking for, but all i really wanted was tabbed IMs. the new triton has that feature which is nice, and you can choose where the ads show up which is also nice. i chose to have them show up in the actual IM window, so if i'm not talking to anyone, it won't load the ads (i guess it doesn't at least). other than that, it's basically the same with different colors hah.

I don't have any ads now :). And I don't really use the Tabbed IMs. Although being inspired by my love of tabbed browsing in FF, I may give it a shot again

I use GAIM, but that's a multi-protocol messenger app. I don't think that's what you were looking for, but I try to stay away from the default messenger apps (AIM, Yahoo, MSN, etc) just because I don't really like them. Have you considered a multi-protocol app?

@Jizzylax: I am mainly looking for tabbed IMs, and I hadn't actually heard of the AIM Triton beta before, but it's more of change than I was looking for at this point. I'll keep that in mind for the future look.

@Heart_Attack/DarkJedi I tried GAIM and Trillian before, but I really don't care for the interfaces of such multi-protocol applications.

@stealth: Messenger:Mate looks very promising, so I'm definitely gonna try that out. Thanks man.

@JoePacton: Yeah, and that's basically the version of AIM I currently use at home to keep DeadAIM happy. Expect it's 3595 so it's a slightly newer build.

Also, it's not such much that I need the new functionality either. I just want to have a maintained add-on where I can update AIM without worry.

@EmoAddict15: Looking at the feature list for Middleman, I don't see any tabbed/grouped IM functionality, so thanks anyway.
