W00t.
Regardless of the authenticity of the book ( i believe some, not all, is true) i've really been looking forward to this film!
Edit: Hmm, i'm not happy about the fullscreen version being itunes only though...
dude, it's a novel. anyone who believes it is a complete tool. it's a NOVEL! A WORK OF FICTION!

It is a novel, but some of the things in there are facts, opus dei (not *all* the shady stuff they're involved with in the book), the priory of scion (although they're not as big and spooky as they seem) and most of the other concepts etc, are all real, if tainted with fiction.
ALso, the book presents the most plausable, if slightly exaggerated through fiction, argument for the purging of the dead sea scrolls.

Sometimes people say things that are just so fucking stupid, you have to lose all respect for them.
Although a novel, Da Vinci Code is based on facts. It has been thoroughly researched, (his wife is a art historian and a painter).
If it was simply a novel, there wouldnt be so much drama and controversy over it

Anything Tom Hanks is involved in is usually pretty good, so I'm looking forward to this.
OK, so it's a novel with a few pieces of non fiction in it, cleverly written to make people belive all sorts of crazy shit. the guy found some cool stuff that da vinci did, some codes, and spun it into a story. nout wrong with that, the coolest stories have an element of truth in them, but when people are like "OMG, i'm starting to doubt my existence because of THIS BOOK", they have overstepped the line. its ridiculous. base your beliefs and ideas on reference books, not novels.
far too much attention has been given to this book, IMO.
i don't care if anyone has lost respect for me. i think what i think and nobody will change that by calling me stupid.

i read enough of the book to form an opinion of it, if that's what you're implying.

Try angels and demons first, its the prequel to the book, although you can read either without reading the other.
Dan Browns "digital fortress" is another great read, about cyber-age encryption, regardless of the fiction-lacing he does in his books, Brown really does research the material he's writing about a good bit. Can't wait for his next book

Does that mean you read the back cover for a description, you read the first chapter, or you got halfway done and put it down?

Its the same principal as "mac bashers" who think Macs are the worst things ever, only because they have little to no experience with them.
If Fod has read it, or a significant amount of it, then he is entitled to dislike/like it. I have no qualms there.
But I have seen many people say "I hate this" without ever actually giving it a shot.

Fod didn't state at all whether he liked it or not; he merely stated that it was a novel (which is the truth, AFAIK,
and I did read it).
i don't hate the book. the book is cool. i hate the people who read it and are all like "OMG WOAH THAT BOOK IS SOOO DEEP LET'S WANK OVER IT LIKE IT'S ALL GOSPEL" like it's some kind of academic text!!

i smell feud.
i'd like to see the movie, cause its based on a fictional book (although it was based on facts). movies based on novels are usually pretty good. then you add tom hanks and it's bound to be good.
and just so i don't get my head bitten off, i would like to add that yes, the book was researched and a lot of the stuff in it was based on facts, but to make it an interesting book, some facts had to be stretched and exagerated. now, i'm not saying all facts were tainted, but enough to keep you wondering what was true and what was false. most of the organizations and "cults" were real though. i need to finish the book now, i've been reading it too long.

ABC has something about the DaVinci Code. I just saw a comercial for it, i think it's called the serach for the DaVinci Code. It's kind of like a news thing. If i find out what time it is going to come out I'll post it.
I think Fod is right about all the attention this novel has brought, even thought it is just a novel. But I can't judge since I haven't read it.

I wonder how much the movie would get censored, if they don't remove any stuff from the book then it's going to cause the right wing religious buffs to crazy.

Holy crap. Finally someone else willing to say that about Macs.
I hate reading, but I might just end up reading this book.
