Not really a good picture in my opinion, but its still pretty cool to see NCC-1701 being built. I think this movie is going to be a risk. I'm not pretty sure if its going to be good or not. They have an excellent cast for all of the characters that we are familiar with, but making a major prequel is a risk. I just really hope that its not a disappointment like Star Wars Episodes I,II,III.

EDIT:

HERE IS THE HD TEASER TRAILER:

Well after reading up more on the new Star Trek movie, it seems that they took their time on the script and are really focusing on it to make sure that no one is disappointed; however I am kinda disappointed/confused/upset that they did not bring in William Shatner to be in the movie, but they went ahead and got Leonard Nimoy to come back and play his famous character. In fact, I read a lot and it seems that Shatner is pretty disappointed as well as confused that he was not asked or approached to show up on that movie. I mean, hes just as famous if not more famous than Leonard Nimoy, but they don't approach Shatner they just approach Nimoy. I would like to think that the only reason why they are doing this is that Nimoy is unfortunately is a typecast and doesn't really get any work. Yeah hes done a lot of voices on games and cartoons and shit like that, but never really have been on anything other than Star Trek. When you look at Shatner's list, hes been in a bunch of movies and tv shows to where hes a main character. So like I said, I would like to think that they felt bad for Nimoy and wanted to throw a few bucks towards his way.

I think it would have been really cool to have Shatner show up on it. I think the last Star Trek thing he was on now that I think about it was Star Trek: Generations. Generations I would have to say was the last good Star Trek movie that they came out with, First Contact was ok, Insurrection sucked horribly IMHO, and Nemesis was better than Insurrection and First Contact, but it was missing something that disappointed a lot of us...I don't know what was missing, but I think was a downer for me was that DATA was killed off and they leave that stupid cliffhanger with B-4 (the DATA prototype).

Off topic, but what I've always wanted since I was a kid and was introduced to the DATA character is that I would love to see Spock and DATA meet each other and play a game of 3 dimensional chess. I have always wondered who would have won that.

Back on topic:

I think its really exciting to see Simon Pegg (known as Shaun on the movie Shaun of the Dead) playing the part of Scotty. Zachary Quinto (known as Sylar on the tv show Heroes) playing the part of Spock is interesting as well as exciting, because I really think that guy is a damn good actor.

I'm also excited to see the following playing as well:

Winona Ryder (I've had a crush on this girl since I saw her on Beetlejuice) playing as Spock's MOMMY

Karl Urban (I've liked him ever since I saw him in Chronicles of Riddick and LOTR movies) playing BONES, "DAMN IT JIM, THIS IS STAR TREK, NOT MORDOR!"

John Cho (everyone loved him as Harold in Harold & Kumar GTWC, but a lot of people didn't know that he played as a patient in the first season of fox's House. He played a fucked up guy, his character was this guy that liked being controlled and abused/chocked by a dominatrix lol) playing Sulu.

ok...I think I have talked enough about this enough for now until something else comes across my mind smile.gif

*edit*

I would like to say that I'm not too fond of Tyler Perry being on the movie. I don't see why he needs to be in it at all. They guy makes a shit load of shitty movies and tv shows. Hes always making something and I think its all crack...and dear god look how big his fucking head is!

Another one?

now explain me: with all the interest in science fiction, specifically ones with spaceships, how come no games are made about it anymore? not referring to star trek, nor star wars, but to games like iWar and Freelances etc.

Freelancer is cloned quite regularly, but always worse. The best recent game in FL's footsteps was Darkstar One. The game was really fun. The last incarnation I played was Spaceforce, it felt soulless and boring altogether (worse than the X-series). Quite sad, the graphics and spaceships were both good; that's probably easier to establish than a gripping storyline with likable characters. Guys like Chris Roberts are kinda unemployed these days, I guess.

But more ontopic - What feels wrong about this movie (to me), is that many actors never had any time on the lot together. While some actors were completely finished with all their scenes, others hadn't even started shooting theirs yet. Either the conversations between some folks in this film only show one person (so the other didn't have to be present and "it" can be done via cutting during post) and the angle switches all the time between the participants, or they won't have any at all. But that's just a big part of the flair in those films (or it used to be); when e.g. Kirk can't give Scotty down in the engine room some hasty orders, it's not the same...

Oh and I just have an irrational hate towards this Quinto dude. How could they allow him to play Spock... sad.gif He already ruined Heroes for me, where his character always is allowed to continue his killing spree, after he was already pinned down. Either the other characters are too damn stupid or the writing is too bad, I just can't decide which one. rolleyes.gif Hopefully he leaves the show for good, but we know he won't...

Also, Abrams is producer (Mission Impossible 3, easily worst movie in the series)... Ungh! Maybe the influence from people who know what they are doing, like Damon Lindelof, is big enough.

But with the exception of Sylar, the cast seems to be quite good, or at least interesting. With the scenario given, they would have a hard time to totally crash it. If they simply manage to avoid insulting the established universe, the movie will be okay. Around a 7 on IMDb.
