Full Version: Brad Wardell/Stardock own a controlling interest in Neowin?
ieXbeta Board > Etc. > Chit-Chat
Julian Bashir
Hey everyone long time no see.

I was just lurking over on Neowin and noticed they are having a huge "love-in" where Steve Parker ("owner" of Neowin) admits that Stardock owns a "minority share" of Neowin.

I hate to say it but the guy is so stupid that he thinks it is a minority share since it is only 40%.

I hate to break it to him but 40%, when no other shareholder owns anything larger, is considered a majority holding.

Seriously where did this guy learn to do his math?

Also yes I have been banned from there numerous times, funnily enough a large number of those times were for bringing up the fact that Stardock and Brad tried to have ieXbeta wiped off the map.

They like to keep that stuff hush hush through.

I mean after all they keep talking about what a great guy he is and how he helps keep communities online by "saving" them and blah blah blah.

Sure, but he not only becomes staff on those sites he also becomes an admin (after the investments).

So if he's such a great guy then why did he try to take ieXbeta offline?

The answer is simple. ieX used to supply links to BETA builds of his companies software.

That's right links to beta builds, not fully released builds, not even activated or full use builds, just BETA's.

This guys tactics rank right up there with the RIAA and the MPAA, but let's not forget what a nice guy he is wink2.gif

Sorry for the rant all, but it's been a while since I've been around and I just had to say something.

Glad to see you Julian, but we prefer not to discuss other forum sites like this, so ... **topic closed**

After further review, I've changed my position on the matter, so ... **topic re-opened**

Therefore, feel free to continue the discussions and I apologize for the hold up.

Huh, interesting. I never realized that the Stardock CEO was so involved with Neowin. I have always had a dislike for Stardock ever since they threatened ieXbeta. I guess it also explains how Neowin has done better over the years. They have a lot more money behind them.

Of course this info doesn't really make any difference as far as I'm concerned, but it's interesting to know.
Phonics Monkey
They've been on my shit list since then too, I refuse to use any of their software and recommend to others that it be avoided.

Well I knew the dude that owned Stardock was an admin there, didn't know that he had invested any money into it. I've never used any Stardock products, and I don't plan on to. I'm happy with my hacked uxtheme.dll smile.gif

No prob B smile.gif

I think most of my invective on this issue is that Brad denies that his being an admin affects people being banned. Whether it be for criticizing Stardock or having an issue with his arrogance, which he admits he is.

Add to that the fact that he claims he's so helpful to "the small people" and you wind up with one pissed off MP/JB.

I can't count the number of times they've banned me there (this is the longest so far) and it's just sickening.

Add to that the fact that I mentioned earlier that he tried to have this place wiped off the map.

GRR.

Heh, usually when a site bans you once, then they don't want you back. Maybe that's why you keep getting banned. rolleyes.gif

It's interesting information, but it's really pointless to get upset over it. What happened in the past is behind us. I don't buy Stardock products, and that's that.

Exactly, if anyone could just re-register after a ban, you could stop banning altogether. What would still be the point? Just generally speaking. I don't know anything about this case. It's not me who was banned, so it's still questionable if the ban was justified. lick.gif

I would suggest not to waste any more time over there and to move on. There is nothing to gain IMHO. Sometimes it's best to just realize that there are better things to do.

Hey if that were true Chug then I wouldn't still be around here.

Do you know how many times I've been banned from here and the staff have unbanned me later?

Seriously I think I'm the most banned member in ieX history (on top of Neowin history) tongue.gif

Maybe they thought you deserved a second chance?

Who has more bans than Morpheus Phreak himself? wink2.gif smile.gif

Also if they thought I needed a second chance I'd be in trouble.

I literally think I'm well over a dozen by now but I haven't had one in nearly 4 years so wink2.gif

I don't go to Neowin much at all as I don't like it's "Atmosphere". To be perfectly honest I feel the place has no character.

As for Stardock products...don't like them, would never buy them.

bring back the ban it is then!

stardock? bloated, system hogging software. nice to look at once, difficult to uninstall thereafter.

installed CRACKED copies at one point, and was soon very happy not to have bought it.

I've been using their freeware ObjectDock for years. I love it. I think it only uses about 18 to 20MB of my 2GB RAM.

I hate having shortcuts on my desktop and with ObjectDock I can start my most used applications from anywhere in Windows (besides when running full-screen games) which is the sole purpose of me using it. Well also because it looks pretty nice.

Am I the only ieXbeta user using Stardock software?
Brains
godcha!

@mods: we have one!!!! fear.gif

Yes you are.. laugh.gif

Techneut
I've tried ObjectDock; but soon discarded it as being too childish...

As a fervent XP believer, I'm using a nice upperbar for my most frequent programs, and a leftbar for my frequent Internet addresses.
Works good enough for me, without all the extra eye candy.
(rightclick on the startbar, and choose new toolbar...)

Indeed. Lets make life as boring and pale as possible! Too childish? You mean as childish as your signature?

Yawn.

I will agree that I'm long overdue.

Heck I think I was averaging 1 a month (maybe every other month) for the first couple years on ieX.

4 years without one has really screwed up my stats sad.gif wink2.gif fear.gif laugh.gif

It's my topic, I can change the subject anytime I want to.
The Topic is now Unicorns.

UNICORNS I SAY!!! fear.gif

As for Neowin, the only thing I like over there really was the gaming and home theater boards.
