Check this out. It's a lightning strike recorded in unbelievably slow motion:

Awesome video though. Look at how it starts from the sky and sends bolts out in all directions. As soon as one comes in contact with the ground, BOOM! Check out right near the end of 0:04. For a moment the whole sky seems to light up. The length of time that the lightning stays on the screen after that gives you an idea of just how slow this is being played.

actually, last night we had a major lightning storm. these things rarely happen here because we're right in the mountains so it was really something amazing.
it started as dry lightning all across the sky until some strikes started hitting the mountains. then it poured for 10 minutes while strikes kept hitting (one hit in town) until the storm passed over and into a different mountain range. then the lightning was forking upwards and across the sky, it was really nuts. I've never seen anything like it. there must have been a two hour lightning show.
