After many tests trying to get MCE Update Beta 1 to work I have the final trick biggrin.gif
I will be releasing a guide on how to do it soon, it seems that MS has blocked the old Dell key (XJM6Q......) in this new release.
Basically I have slipstreamed a few MCE Update Beta 1 system files into the main I386 folder and that makes it work.
I will also post these modified files for the MCE Update to work.

Also one note of caution, for this update pack you need a Windows XP Pro OEM cd slipstreamed with SP1 and the NETFX folder from the Windows XP CD2.

So get prepared biggrin.gif

Alright, sorry for this being a bit late rolleyes.gif

One problem with this, MCE Update Beta 1 turns out to be German, but you'll be amazed at the speed of this thing!!!

What you need for the conversion:

*A Windows MCE (2002) slipstreamed CD, if you don’t have one or don’t know how to make one, PM me and I'll point to you a page with instructions on making one.
*The leaked MCE Update Beta 1 files, you can find them here on the ieXbeta board.
*Updated setup files here
*Q811632 fromhere

I'm presuming you already have a MCE slipstreamed CD, now go to
CMPNENTS\MEDIACTR\I386
and delete the old MEDIACTR.CAB file.

Now open your MCE Update Beta 1 cab with something like WinRAR and extract those files to:
CMPNENTS\MEDIACTR\I386

Go to the I386 folder and unzip the updates setup files there overwriting the older ones with the new ones.

Now you need to burn your new MCE CD, select a CD burning app below and skip down to the part where it tells you how to burn a bootable CD:
Nero
Easy CD Creator

When you have burned your CD your now ready to install.

Now boot up your computer with the CD in the drive and your BIOS settings adjusted so your computer will look for a CD at boot.

Now install Windows using your new CD, you will need to format your HD for this to work.

When at some point during instillation you are asked to insert the "Windows XP Professional CD 2" because it can’t find ehiwmp.dll, when you see this message eject the CD and reinsert the CD, when the CD loads up the message automatically goes and installs the new Update Beta 1.

After this you get a message saying it cant find "gacutil.exe" just press cancel because this file isn’t on the Windows XP CD or in the updated files, don’t really know what it does anyway.

Let setup to finish and on the first boot load up in Safe Mode, when in safe mode install Q811632, this will let you log onto Windows without activation at first logon.

If you don’t install Q811632 then you will be prompted to activate windows at first logon, and with this new update, you cannot logon using the old leaked Dell key as said in the first post.

This should be all done, oh yes and one point, don’t install any of the Media Center related updates from Windows Update, it will think you’re on the old MCE 2002 and corrupt MCE.

Hi!

I´ve tried with the files you had post above and I used MCE 2002 just the way you described. The installation went along fine. Then when I trying to start Mediacenter it starts in a kind of "minimized" condition and the cpu usage is 100% so I had to kill the process.
Have you noticed anything like that, Ash?

Ash
No, From what I have heard from feedback in PM's everything works fine for people other than myself.
Make sure your that the version of XP your installing is the English one and also if you have .Net Framework 1.0 installed, MCE dosen't work with .Net Framework 1.1

If you're talking abour Update Beta 1, it doesn't have an XP CD-2. It comes (to testers) in a PC w/ 3 reinstall disks. So, some ppl. made a mediactr.cab file, and some patches for it to work w/ xp pro.

If you're talking about the Final version of MCE 2002 (on XP-CD2), that's considered warez.

The mediactr.cab file is about 81meg (or 10-11 meg, when you remove it of useless components : media center welcome video, doa3 preview, wallaper, and images)

Beta_man do you have the pal freestyle decoder for me?

plzzzzzzz

Thanks
