Hey,

I upgraded (?) from a p3 650 to a Celeron 1.2 Ghz on an i810e M/B . Now, Redhat Linuxx 8.0 boots VERRY SLOW.. Then i deleted the RH partition, loaded Lycoris..it installed fine, and when it rebooted, it gave the SAME problems as Rh...a VERY slow boot.

I formatted my entire HDD coz it had usless partitions. I tried installing RH 8 on the EMPTY hdd and the installer went to " running /sbin/loader " and stopped for like , 5 mins...Then Anaconda began and again hung for like 5 mins. Once, i got a " Panic . could not mount VFS kernel" or something of the sort message.

CAN anyone help??

Oh,,another thing....my RAM :

i have HIGH DENSITY RAM : one DIMM of 512 MB and another of 256 MB.

THe 512 MB , my M/b detects as 256 MB and the 256 MB is detected as 128 MB. SO, in effect , i'm getting exactly HALF the RAM capacity.. It shows 384 MB ram. could this be a reason for the problem?

Any solutions ?

Celeron 1.2 Ghz
Kobian i810E M/b
384 MB RAM (half the actual installed amount)

Please help.

Have you already tried lowering the cas settings to 3 in your bios? The memorything is probably the reason. Or it could be a nic which isn't configured to have a static ip, and can't find a dhcp server. But I don't think that's the case.

i have cable internet ie. connect via an ethernet card - and have a static IP.

But , even if t hat's the prob, shuldn't it at least INSTALL the OS before checking for DHCP settings?

i just checked my BIOS....it's AMI BIOS and it does NOT allow me to change the CAS latency settings.

So, any workaround for this?
