To my surprise, the Longhorn that Winbeta.org generously leaked to the internet was actually an upgrade rather than the full version. Luckily, I still had my Longhorn 4008 installed on my D drive.
Is this the truth? Is 4015 an upgrade? Thats probaly the reason why it wont boot because you gotta install over 3683/4008...

edit: but it seems their were corrupted files. so confusing..

I saw you say that elsewhere Tem and I don't think it's true, but I already 4008 installed so cannot say from personal experience.
Even with it there though, I still had boot problems cause parts of the original leak were just plain wrong.

So, does this mean i can upgrade form 4008? That would be awesome. I dont want to lose any of my files, i got a couple of gb's of movies, and whatnot, that i dont want to lose. Could someone test that for me.
Taco Bell
Apr 27 2003, 21:12
No, kylman5000 not exactly. tem is saying that it must detect 4008 before 4015 will install.
Now formatting the selected the partition is optional, so you can try truly "updating" to 4015, but it wouldn't be suggested. Best to start fresh each time.

OK, taco bell. What if i delete all the windows folders, and just keep the folder that i need. I'm thinking of installing longhorn on the smaller drive, and xp on the larger drive. Would it be corrupt or something if I just delete the windows folders?
I got 32 gb's of info, on a 80gb. i got nothin except xp on the other drive, which only has 18gb's left.
(ps, i dont think that made sence, if you got it, help me)

Reading
the article for myself, I see now what they're trying to say. They simply mean that since it wasn't bootable, you had to have a Windows OS to install from, so it was like an "upgrade".

The reason it appeared to be an upgrade is because the first ISO that leaked was screwed up. The fixed ISO fixes all of this crap

I didnt feel like making a new topic, but has anyone tried an upgrade from 4008? And does it erease your files?

No, it didn't delete anything. Thought it would most likely delete the my documents folder, but it didn't. All my programs remain intact and their registry settings are unaltered.

Can you update from xp pro to longhorn 4015, and if you format ur comp can you boot from the cd and install that way?

Apr 28 2003, 16:14
No, you cannot upgrade from xp pro/home to 4015.

After having applied ReflectiaX's fix for the ISO, you could do that.

MS will probably support an update from XP when things are more in place, but they had to re-work the install to make use of Windows PE. Plus it's still in alpha stages remember!
As for the dosgy ISO, well WiNBETA wanted to get their markings on it and messed up in the process. They should have just released it as-is, but that's all in the past now.

It clearly states in the installation that in order to create an upgrade, you must have at least 4000 or higher build number.

i am stuck. I have to longhorn ones!
The 681mb
and a 566mb
All of mirc. so whats the diffrence and will they still both work?
Quantum Topology
Apr 30 2003, 07:10
Yes one is most likely in tar format and the 681 is most likely just in iso format.

Apr 30 2003, 09:36
oh yer i remeber now. #Hits his head hard on table#
I downloaded a .tar file!
Will the iso be in that file, or is it just the files for lh 4015?
Cos i know 1 have 1 true copy of longhorn, but decided to get this of irc and it aint finished downloading the tar one yet, so what would i expect to see in the tar file?

what i know:
you can only upgrade build to build of longhorn and thats it only if its past build 4000 like u can do 4008 to 4015 and etc. You cant do xp to it u can only do a clean then.
