your not sopose to uncheck help and support. it renders some parts of the OS useless.

I did unchecl it, and tem's kinda right. But i believe, it just has XP help file, which is kinda useless in longhorn.

what i meant by that was, of course help and support dont work, system information dont work, and im not sure what else. but system informatin is very helpful if you wanna see if your system is "the full version". wink2.gif

That only happens if you disable the SERVICE. Thats why i put (optional) next to it. If you use some of the functions then leave it on. I wrote the guide so people have an easier time using it. Anyways hope u guys enjoy it.

In my case, I don't see any reason to tweak and disable these options when it is perfectly speedy by itself.

Which is all relative to your hardware. Not everyone will have a speedy version. I don't, but killing 60% of the unneeded services helps.

One thing I would like to add to Chris' guide (good work, by the way...props to you, as well as 12-packs and hot wings), is the part about the sysoc.inf file.

Easier way to do it is to open the file in Notepad, and do a Replace of ,HIDE with ,

This will replace all instances and prevent possible accidents.

I've asked myself that question (about remote registry) for ages tongue.gif
devildan
and the other crap we dont need!

But i have to admit, some of it might be useful but not all of it, but it should beoptional to install. You know when installing linux you choose what you want to install, well windows should be like that.

Windows does this kind of. well you need this to run that, and that to run this.
And you think why do i want to run that?

It would be good though if you could install what you want!

Remote registry is enabled by default for IT's use, but I also use it for my install stuff at work.

However, there already is a Windows whose setup is fully customizable. It's called Embedded XP. wink2.gif

I can also safely say that the standard consumer/business edition will _never_ expose all those options as a part of the actual installation routine.
