to tell you the truth, i downloaded the same exact files and i didnt even bother to look. i just extracted the iso from en_longhorn_4015_pro-WinBeta.rar, used vorte[x]'s fix, and burned.

edit: par files, u need SmartPar.

The PAR files are for use with a program called SmartPAR in case the RAR files become corrupt.
Just open the .RAR file and extract the ISO.
If it extracts okay, then you don't need the PARs and can safely delete them. You can even delete the RARs at that point if you so choose.

So i dont get it. Do i need smartpar, or can i just extract the winrar files? Why would they include it?

As I said, the PAR files are used to authenticate the RAR files, and in case they become corrupt, to rebuild them.
kyle...the ISO is in en_longhorn_4015_pro-WinBeta.rar. so extract the iso, fix it, and burn it. and ur all set!

Yes, all you have to do is open up the first file and extract the iso.
The one thing I don't get is why these are all compressed in three different formats, well mine was (tar, rar and iso). A bit much I think. The iso itself isn't THAT big.

I haven't seen it compressed in three different ways, but a simple RARing takes the 665 MB fixed ISO down to 560 MB. Thereby saving you about 8.5% and also adds CRC verification thereby giving you a quick way to know if your download is corrupt. All in all making it well worth the additional overhead.

I don't mind two compressions, but it is annoying with three. I guess it works okay, I mean packaging the iso into a bunch of rar's and then packaging them in a tar, but it does get frustrating.
