Hi, I have installed win2k3 and want to disable the shutdown tracker...I have the guides which say you have to goto group policy editor then into computer config -> admin templates but there isnt a system folder only a windows components folder!!! where has it gone and how can i get it back?
AaronXP
Did you perform an upgrade rather than a fresh install?
TomAL
fresh install...
Quantum Topology
both the upgrade and install have it. But to disable it you do the following:

Start > Run
MMC
File > Add/Remove Snap-in...
Add...
Group Policy Object Editor
Add

Finish

Close

OK

That' about it.
TomAL
yeah i have those instructions and can get into group policy no probs, but the system folder isnt there!!!

From Windows 2003 FAQ on windowsbeta.microsoft.com...

After installing Windows .NET, Build 3621 (and maybe any newer build), you will probably see a new shutdown dialog box asking for the reason of every shutdown/restart. While this information can be useful for the people at Microsoft, sometimes it can be disturbing for beta sites that are continuously rebooting the machines.

You have the option to disable this new shutdow dialog box (called Shutdown Event Tracker) and revert to the classic one where no question is asked.

To do so, either run GPEDIT.MSC if your machine is NOT a domain controller, or launch Domain Security Policy (from the Administrative Tools folder) if your computer is a domain controller. Next, navigate to Computer Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> System and then set the Display Shutdown Event Tracker policy to Disable. You won't be asked any more when you try to shutdown/restart your machine.

Additionally, you can Open Help and Support, and search for "shutdown event tracker overview." The suggested topic provides information on the new shutdown event tracker, and how to enable/disable it.

Which build do you have RC1 or RC2

If it RC1, this reg Hack is not available, its only available in RC2

I had to make two forays into that folder myself...make sure that you're doing all your navigating in the left pane, not the right one...until you get to the end...

Try going to tools folders options/View/ Hide system files and uncheck it in windows explorer.

Also show hidden files
