Full Version: [WIN] SlipStreaming XP. Is SP-1a Ok???

I'm making a new XP-pro CD and was wondering if anyone has slipstreamed the service pack "SP-1a" into the 'mix' yet and were there any problems?

My current CD is slip streamed with SP-1 and works flawlessly.

The reason I ask is that I found a tutorial (http://thro.port5.com/xaliasx0/xpss.html) that said something about Sp-1a is out and may be used for slip streaming but it does NOT contain "Microsoft VM" what ever that is?

One more question: Is it worth updating the 'deploy cab' that was released by MS in 2-03. (http://microsoft.com/WindowsXP/pro/downloads/servicepacks/sp1/deploytools.asp)I know that officially the deploy cab (aka:Windows XP Corporate Deployment Tools)is for "assisting system administrators in installing Windows XP on multiple computers. This file contains updates to Setup Manager, the Sysprep utility, and related documentation." Since I'm not going to be doing Admin installs, do I need to use it????

Any comments would be appreciated.

I don't see why it wouldn't work... it would just cost you one cd to find out though.

The Microsoft VM is their Virtual Machine, or Java. If you get SP1a, you get shitty Sun Java. I'm hoping SP2 doesn't force me to leave my nice MS VM and make me switch to resource hogging, ugly ass Sun Java.

Your milage may vary, of course. wink2.gif

I slipstreamed SP1 fine and there were no problems whatsoever. Nah, the deploy.cab files suck.

SP1 contained Microsoft Java VM
SP1a doesn't include any Java VM

^That is the only difference between the two Service Packs.

It won't be until SP1b, and probably SP2, that it includes the "shitty" Sun Java. wink2.gif
