Well guys if you were wondering what was happening with Dashboard or if it was just dropped after 1.0.

Well I have great news for you, it wasn't. SNP Software and there gang have been working on it "secretly" as a private beta to surprise you guys with it when there almost done. A new public beta has been released last night for all you guys to download. Check it out and post in our fourms of any bugs you have found.

The Weather Network component download is about 7MB. This will be corrected with the next beta release. If you have a copy of Microsoft.mshtml.dll on your computer, you can copy that to the Downloaded Components folder to avoid the large download.

Also read the Read Me fill for all the changes and updates done on Dashboard!

Just a snippet of some of the new nice features from a Quick launch of your favourite programs, new XP start menu (not shown), calculator, slideshow (not shown), New News Agrigator, Drive Watcher, Note Manager and many many more features. This is a beta build, so it may not be as stable or reliable as a production build. Use it at your own risk

More Info

Although the new beta 9 tool has much more features. "Some are pre-installed. The rest are available for download from within the program," said Danny Smurf, Lead Programmer of SNP Software.

In Telling us a bit of more information, Danny Smurf and programmers of his company SNP Software has been working on Codename Dashboard for 8 months and still going strong. They have also recently announced that they have 104,533 downloads from their users. They plan to have the next-generation of an organized desktop taskbar for the Microsoft Windows platform.

Now, I don't think I have to warn you, this is beta software, just like with Longhorn. In version 1.1 you will find many improvements. It's faster, takes less memory, has new componenents, etc. Also, do remember that Dashboard development and the component development are seperate. We have some components like the taskbar component that is still VERY buggy. Now that we have a better working version (or almost have it smile.gif), we will be able to make it look nicer too. Some of the components need a few things done to them, new buttons, etc. That will all be taken care of soon. For now, download it, play with it, break it, whatever. Just make sure you report any problem you have with it to us via the message board on our website, or email.

Let me make a note, if you dont like Dashboard, don't look at this thread, and don't post here, we dont want to hear you crying anymore. If you have something constructive to say, lets hear it smile.gif

Heh, I dunno, some people like the longhorn look, some people like that clock, personally it doesn't do much for me. Come to think of it... I have it installed, but I'm not really sure the last time I looked at it tongue.gif
