How to back up a PC game DVD onto CDs?
Any ideas? huh.gif
Fod
er..... i got a long-winded solution:

backup the DVD to your PC as an ISO.

split the ISO to multiple, CD-sized files using some kinda file splitter

burn the split files to CD. problem is, how do you play?

well, you gotta take the split ISO fragments and re-merge them again on your system, then mount the ISO using a virtual drive app (alcohol 52% seems to be sticking in my mind)

so yeah. hopefully someone will come up with a better method.

Well i saw that a warez group named Deviance has done this with Silent Hill3. It was released on a DVD, but they made CD version
But how did they do it? Its pretty much impossible to contact em and ask sad.gif

Why not make it an ISO as fod said. Then just ZIP or RAR it spanning them accross CD's. If it is only a backup...

this would probably need a modified install program to ask for a second disc when it got to a certain point copying files. it's not really something any old shmo could do.

The guys in the Warez groups are serious programmers - some of the best there are. They break the programs down to code base and write entirely new executables from scratch to do this stuff - it's not as simple as "rip the DVD into chunks".

Illrigger - is it possible to decompile executable code? i never thought it possible unsure.gif

Anything is possible, if you know how. How do you think those no-cd hacks get made (and why do you think some of them don't work wink.gif )?
Fod
i thought they used hex-editors. i found a guide on cracking .EXEs a while back......

Ty Fod, im such a dumbass, referring to -> modified install program to ask for a another disc.
1) redistributing files onto CDs depending on capacity and in order the files r being accessed
2) Disassembling program executable, to make my own custom made installer hooray biggrin.gif
3) Compiling new executable and makin isos
4) Burnin with CDRWIN smile.gif
5) To overcome the copy protection ill use cracked exe biggrin.gif

This will be my playdisks, DVD will be safe and sound on my shelf tongue.gif

Ty guys for all ya help and givin me ideas, why didnt i think of this sooner, lol
Fod
good luck laugh.gif

You COULD just use Alcohol128%, but if you want to waste your time doing all that crap and finding out it won't work, more power to ya.
