This is a problem I've had for a while whereby I am unable to get on http://www.google.com. I get redirected to a webpage saying it is due to me having a virus on my computer that causes me to get redirected to their page. They provide a link to a Windows patch that is meant to fix this problem.
Fine I thought - I installed patch just as it said, restarted the computer -still can't get on google. Updated and scanned with my anti-virus software - still can't get on google.

Can anyone help me please?

Thanks in advance smile.gif

Oops! Sorry for the original typo there, but I've corrected & re-corrected my reply. wink.gif

Yeah, that initial IP makes your popup blocker count roll like an odometer. ohmy.gif Good old Goggle.com. Hit the weasel! biggrin.gif A lthough it did have a nice Click Here if you intended to visit Google.com. wink.gif
emel

Look in your hosts file for any ip redirects for google.

Start --> Run --> C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Tell Windows to open the file in notepad, and have a wee lookski.

Here are the values that should be in the registy (for IE6)
CODE
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Search Page"="http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch"
"Search Bar"="http://search.msn.com/intl/searchpane/en-au/prov2.htm"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Default_Search_URL"="http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch"
"Search Page"="http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchasst.htm"
"CustomizeSearch"="http://ie.search.msn.com/{SUB_RFC1766}/srchasst/srchcust.htm"

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Search Page"="http://www.microsoft.com/isapi/redir.dll?prd=ie&ar=iesearch"

Also check your host file %SystemRoot%\System32\drivers\etc\ to make sure that

127.0.0.1 localhost

Is the only line there, and check Sandi's (MVP) Site for other browser/serach engine hijacking fixes

run anti-virus?
Taco Bell
Hmm, that whole "patch" behavior still sounds _very_ suspicious yorkshire. Maybe try an anti-spyware application like Ad-aware or SpyBot?

Also, what happens if you open a command prompt and type "tracert www.google.com" (less the quotes).

Finally, is Google the only web site that's giving you trouble?
