Hey everyone! I'm trying to get into the Usenet thing, seems to be that I managed to get a lot of help from their on some issues before.

What I'm looking for is a decent newsreader. I'm looking for something simple, small footprint, very customizable, and can do multiple servers. The ability to be run from a floppy or similar would be a great benefit.

Anyways, if you have any good ones to recommend, please list them wink.gif.

I use Newsbin Pro for binaries, but it doesn't really fit your description. For text groups I just use Outlook Express.

Make sure you get one with Yenc support (almost all of them have it now except Outlook) because most of the good stuff on Usenet these days is posted in Yenc. And people bitch like no tomorrow! I'd hate to see you ending up as one of those unfortunate people.

If you do decide to just go with OE (it's what I use) make sure you get Yproxy, which is a simple, non-intrusive program for seamless decoding of Yenc files. You can find it at http://www.brawnylads.com in the software section.

THanks everyone, guess I'll just use OE for my reading pleasure unless I can manage to find something else.

I use the exact same setup. newsbin great for binaries (supports yenc encoding) and just OE for reading.

I don't think the current version of Forte Agent supports multiple servers. ermm.gif

Can't speak for mozilla but in newsbin, once you've downloaded files, to see them again, you have to uncheck the "show new posts" option (so the older posts show up) and then select the "ignore filters" option (so files that you've downloaded will be visable again.)

Both options are on screen to the left the filter box (where you can type a keyword to limit your search and quickly show those downloaded files again)
