Full Version: Kazaa-Lite Shut Down by Sharman Networks

Thanks DigitalDude2005 for submitting this ...

Speaking with RatFaced, one of the Kazaa Lite forum moderators today and contact at K-Lite, it has been uncovered that the Kazaa Lite K++ project has been shut down by Sharman Networks on grounds of copyright infringement.

The project, which had been set up to block spy and ad ware within the Kazaa Media Desktop Program has achieved notoriety within the P2P world through its simplistic approach and success in reverse engineering the Kazaa application.

However, the program infringed on the copyright of Sharman Networks, the company that now own and program the Kazaa Media Desktop application, after the purchase of the code and copyright in 2002. The FastTrack (Kazaa) network is financed through advertising systems, which Kazaa Lite K++ does not include, and so was seen as a threat by the owners.

Sharman have threatened legal action, and ordered that the offending content be removed from the official Kazaa Lite sites, including http://www.kazaalite.tk/ which now contains no reference to the existance of the application.

RatFaced said that the decision was “Ironic, that Kazaa is complaining about copyright issues, especially as K-Lite ++ stands for everything that Kazaa CLAIMS to stand for... but fails to deliver.”

We will perhaps never see Kazaa Lite again, but we can hope that users will remain aware of the spyware that is hidden inside the Kazaa application, which is used to finance the creation of the software.

eMule and WinMX offer spyware-free alternatives to Kazaa.

Development on Kazaa-Lite has ceased due to this situation, however the program will continue to work fine, until who knows when.

It's kinda funny, because klite has so many more better features than kazaa, i would think sharman would try and build off of klite to make theirs better. thats what i would do smile.gif then i would shut down klite later laugh.gif

this s fucking bullshit pardon my french but i think this is crap! oh well ne one need the latest version i have it posted on my site e-mail me at: peter_penner@msn.com and ill send u the link Long live K-lite!
Scott
just search for the file name on filemirrors.com or filesearching.com, a lot of places still have it in their FTP sites smile.gif

2.40 works good for me, but it's pointless. Most of the songs now are destroyed, the song will play fine then there is screaching, then it plays fine again, (no it's not my computer doing this) it's the actual files.

Ludacris - Stand Up for example, you try and download that on kazza, have fun... tongue.gif

SCREEECH! same with some bon jovi songs.

changing the bit rate used to work for me, but now even if i find some songs at 192kbps and higher, they still are screwed up. They're dummy songs so the real songs don't get "traded".

Screeching songs are easy to avoid. I never have issues with them on kazaa, or anywhere else. Find a version of "Stand Up"? Peice of cake, found and downloaded a clean copy on kazaa in no time. I guess its all a matter of what to look for, and know whats garbage, and whats not. Kazaa still works far better for getting some things for me than alot of the other downloading programs. No suprise the lite version got shut down, can't believe it took this long for them to go after it. No matter,if this group doesn't do it, someone else will.
newalloy
true enough! It's not Kazaa which does the screeching.. I believe it's the people who rip them who are not aware of how to beat the most recent attempt at scrambling the songs as they rip them. HOLD DOWN THE SHIFT KEY WHEN INSERTING THE CD IN YOUR CDROM!! This stops the protection from "autorunning" on your computer.

Reports that the free K-Lite has been shutdown by Sharman Networks, owner of the trashy $29.95 Kazaa p2p app, appear to be erroneous - for the moment, at least.

I have the same experience. Does this happen because we used KazaaLite or does this happen in KMD too?
DarkJedi
sorry, wrong link, go to http://www.ircspy.com for the story
Bug0049
so does that mean that kazaa lite will continue to be made... or.... what? because there is a lot of conflicting information... so whats going on?

Note to Kazaa Media Desktop Staff:

As long as there is an application with Ad-ware, Spy ware, serial number, DRM, or any other undesirable feature, there will be a person out there to remove or disable the unwanted "features" that your software provides. You just shut down 1 hacked version of Kazaa, but you cannot stop them all!

You just turned a 1 gun battle into a global thermonuclear war. Eat that for breakfast.
DarkJedi
LOL nice one tongue.gif

Then, what is http://www.k-lite.tk/ ??? ohmy.gif
Bug0049
So..... Why doesn't the guy that made k++ release the source for us to compile?
As long as we have the source, kazaa can't really keep us from accessing the network since we could always modify the program to get around whatever they do to keep us out.

Actually they ARE dummy files. The movie and music industries hire companies to upload scrambled movies and music so that you get tired, give up, and just purchase the actual product (or at least they try). It's easy to get around though. Just don't choose the ones with a large number of users sharing. Those tend to be fake.

I'm actually surprised KaZaA Lite didn't get shut down a long time ago, but it is sad to see it go. Considering most of the other P2P programs (the simple ones anyway) all suck now, KaZaA Lite was one of the best.
