Right I have a 60GB disk with Windows XP installed. When I install my 80GB disk alongside it, it functions for about 5-10 minutes, before I get the blue screen of death and my PC reboots!

Any Ideas.
Kal-El
No idea unless you post what kind of error you get on the BSOD!

Try changing slave and master jumpers on hd or putting them on separate ide's.

i don't think that would do anything. the computer wouldn't even boot if the jumpers weren't set correctly.

usually a random reboot (make sure u set ur system to not auto reboot on BSOD btw) is because of bad drivers, or a heating problem. check all that and see. then post ur bsod error.

Yeah, ok, but I just posted the bare details, as I was in school at the time!

DO you have a big enough power supply to run the extra drive. Do you require a bios update. I'd do more research but I'm just gettin ready to leave to go see LOTR. lick.gif

Haha my friend went and saw that, pretty cool prize thingy he got too with slides of the film strip or something.

50 bucks a ticket.... :S

Anyways, yeah i'd check the drive itself, it might be a faulty drive?

if i am wrong don't ... fear.gif

check how much memory you have and it would be possible for yuo to have a 256mb of memory on a 2.6 ghz computer to have the exactly same problem. if possible or you have a spare one add it in. see if it stay a little longer than right now.

i have same problem before, i added more memory. it worked. may possible check the startup and Recovery setting as well. maybe just disable that memory dump thing. take off auto restart.

hoep that would help, I'm a sord of newbie with sad.gif , lick.gif

Damn double posts sorry!

It's definately not a faulty drive, as I have had it running on my friends PC for day's when I was testing it.

Also I have had other HD installed running alongside, so I think I have enough power from the power supply to run another drive.

Specs are 192Mb Ram
550Mhz Amd K6-2 (Yes it's old, it's all I can afford)

140mbs of your ram are being used for your Winxp, wich K6 doesn't like anyways. Your CPU has probably kick it in.

Right-click My computer, choose properties, go to the advanced tab, click "settings" under "startup and recovery", now uncheck "automatically restart". Next time it happens tell us what the BSOD says.

How big is the power supply? ie, 250watts, 300watts....?
Devil McDunnough
small power suppy(get 400W or more) or blaster virus(do a free scan at mcafee.com to be sure unless you already have an AV)
