I have a IBM Thinkpad 600e and i can't boot cause it wants my supervisor password. Is there anyway to recover the password or reset it??
the manual says nothing about a jumper to reset cmos....

Take a look on IBM's site. If this happens with my Toshiba Satellite, theres a recovery disc you can request from Toshiba (as a download) that will reset the bios, but you have to provide proof you are the legal owner of the laptop. Dont know if IBM will do the same.

IBM will probably ask for ownership too, because this is what bad people do when they want to sell stolen laptops but there is a supervisor password.
I'm not accusing anyone of anything right now, but this happens every now and then.
Open her up...is there a cmos battery in the thing? Take that out for 10 seconds, put it back in and tada! You might have to set ur settings again.
Also there is a program you can get off the net, provided you can bott form a floppy or cd rom and it'll get ur bios and supervisior passwords for ya, i can't remeber where it was or what it was called though

but i used it before on my old pentium 200, mommy(and her friends) can't keep me out!! lol

i have had the battery out for an hour, but it didn't work (both the batteries, cmos + normal one). also , i wouldn't be able to use that program because i can't boot since it wants my supervisor pass., it give to errors (ibm like) 161 and 163, the 161 9(dead battery) comes since i have pulled out the backup battery of cmos. guys at ibm helpdesk also say that shouldn't happen.

Tell IBM you want it repaired then, say it happened for no reason one day and its been the same since.
That must suck, having a laptop then cant get into it because of the password. I say higher a professional password hacker and maybe they can figure it out and get into it.

Here are some default IBM passwords on thier bios. It may allow you access into the BIOS, as this was set by the manufacturer.
1. IBM
2. MBIU0
3. sertafu
If those do not work, but you can boot into Windows, try running debug. Do this by opeing up a command prompt window, and typing in
debug then press enter. The command prompt will now turn into a dash
-. At this dash, type in the following commands. Do not type in (enter), I have used this to signify you to physically press the key labled "enter" on your keyboard. Use these commands:
CODE
-o 70 2e (enter)
-o 71 ff (enter)
-q (enter)
exit (enter)
This will work on most BIOSes, but it may not work all of the time. Just renember, issuing the BIOS commands directly can be fatal to your system. You do this at your own risk to your machine.

There should be a set of jumpers next or near the cmos battery. 2 sets of 2 pins = 4 jumpers. Now take the jumper from its current position move it to the empty spot. Boot. clear password and move the jumpers back....Should work.

Take the battery out, leave it out for about 6 hours, and then try again!

This same thing happened to me a couple of years back and removing the battery for a minute and then replacing it did the trick. If you do that though, make sure you have a copy of your bios settings (your motherboard manual should have it), before you take the battery out.

Have you tried flashing your BIOS? You will need to change the boot order to boot from floppy first. If your HDD is set to be the first boot device then open your latop and unplug your HDD, this should force it to boot from the floppy.
