Hey, Im trying to burn video files to dvd's for the first time, I dont really know which software program is the best, im guessing its Nero but Im not sure, any input on programs you use would be great, also I was wondering if when I do find a program, before I burn the DVD will I have to encode it to mpg with TMPGENC or can you burn avi's to dvd, sorry, im a really nOOb @ dvd burning, just started today, thanks mates

If you just want to put data files on a DVD, use Nero. It's just like burning a CD. But one file can not be over 2gb (unless you use UDF format).

It's a little more complicated to make DVD videos. Nero package 2 has utilities to help you with that. If you want to copy encrypted movies, DVD X Copy is very easy to use, but I don't like it because it has adds a warning message to the front of the movie, and it won't let you make copies of copied DVDs.

I've been working on finding a better method of copying DVDs. When the dual-layer DVD burners come out, DVD Decrypter will kick ass.

Thanks. So far, it looks like the best way to copy is to rip it with DVD Decrypter, compress it with DVD shrink, and burn it with Nero.

dvdxcopy does it all in one program. Works great. I currently have a film though that it isn't working for. Tonight I'm going to try anydvd in conjunction with clonedvd. Anydvd decrypts and clonedvd will shrink and burn. It also have a very nice simple interface.

Yeah, I just found out about AnyDVD. Maybe it will work with Nero!

Just used anydvd with clonedvd. It couldn't be any more simple to get an entire dvd onto a single dvdr. I'm dumping dvdxcopy.

EDIT #2: it works, but its MUCH SLOWER then DVDXCopy Platinum... but for some reason, i get a Tristana exception or something..
