Greetings,
Microsoft is pleased to announce the opening of the Private Beta program for Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access (aka "Budapest"). Nomination deadline is July 15th. If your company is interested in participating in this program, please follow the nomination instructions at the end of this email.
Microsoft Office Communicator Web Access is the web client for Live Communications Server 2005, which we expect to be available in the second half of CY 2005. It is currently in development, with a Beta release expected within the next 30 days.
Communicator Web Access is intended to enable customers to deploy presence and IM capabilities in scenarios where they may currently be blocked. The Beta will assist us in validating certain aspects of the product’s design. These aspects include the deployment topologies, acceptable support for cross platform browsers and acceptable UI implementation and management functionality.
Communicator Web Access will be based on the look and feel of the Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 client and will have a subset of its functionality (the focus being on IM & presence), with support for a broad range of browsers.
Key deployment scenarios for Communicator Web Access include:
· Down-level Windows platforms which can not run a rich IM client
· Locked down desktops which prevent the deployment of a rich IM client
· Non-windows platforms (i.e. Mac/Unix/Linux)
· External user scenarios – both ‘Kiosk’ as well as other external users such as ‘road warriors’ or home workers
We are looking for customers that are willing to work with early beta technology who can evaluate and provide feedback.
Thanks for your continued support and interest in Microsoft's real-time collaboration products!

Q. Will Communicator Web Access require an additional CAL?
A. Customers will be able to use Communicator Web Access to access LCS 2005 SP1 and beyond assuming they have up to date CALs for access to this product.
