It's an extension of MSN Search Toolbar. Completely seperate of MSN Explorer. That's where the difference is. Although they may have had that feature integrated in it, this is for people who don't use MSN. I'll use it since I have a dislike for MSN Explorer.

This will really suck for some of the good testers, that Guest ID is now out to the public and I can safely say that half of the testers will be n00bs. Yet another strange move from MS, putting the Office beta onto Betaplace....

i dont think so. ms picks its BT's very carefully which is why some of us previous BT didnt get into vista
Microshit
what? no way man! have you ever been on the LH newsgroups? half of the testers are pretty new to beta testing. Same with the Office 11 beta, a lot of the testers were noobs. From not so long ago, it was first come first serve.
jimb11
I went on the Office 12 Survey and it said you had to download the software. I thought they would send out CD's because I'm on dial up and that would take forever to download. O well I guess I can't beta test this one.
Marty
They will probably send cd's too

@microshit. Do you have the url for ms connect? Would like to have it.. Thanks
Heart_Attack
@Nepos_Box: It's a phase out thing. BetaPlace still hasn't been completely phased out, but Connect is Microsoft's future beta location. ID's there are unique to the specific passport, so there won't be any sharing.

Yes i know that there is no sharing ids on ms connect. But i am wandering the url to sign-up for ms connect beta testing. Would you be able to help me out with this url? Thank you in advance.
Taco Bell
@Nepos_Box: This has been covered befoe, but the best you can do is just go to the Connect site that Heart_Attack mentioned previously and register an account.

Now since this isn't a Connect-based thread, let us please get back to the topic at hand.

Office12 invite is now closed.

The Office12 invite is closed?? What happeneds to the people who signed up earlier??

Sorry Microshit, I mis-read what you posted.. Sorry.. and im 14 and I couldn't use MS Connect because I had to be 18, but now I can sign up for anything on MS Connect.. Im confused...
Taco Bell
@GhostWarrior25: Regarding the Office 12 invites, time will tell, but for now, they're simply not taking anymore applications.

As for BetaPlace, Microshit wasn't saying that the site is closed. He was implying that it's on the decline and (gradually) being phased out in favor of MS Connect.

Oh, FYI, there is another Office 12 Tech Beta invitation out if you click the above link... (Singh400's)

Taco Bell
Not sure why Singh400 didn't bother to summarize that, but I've now updated the initial post accordingly.
Angerphile
Granted... That posting edited the original email... The orig had a line with:

**Participation in the Office "12" Technical beta is by invitation only. Do not share this information with others or post it to the internet as it reduces your chances of being accepted into the program.**

That why I didn't post the Guest ID, I just posted a link to the site that had leaked it. Not my fault in anyway wink2.gif

Internet Explorer 7: Now in beta testing for developers

The first stage of the beta process for Internet Explorer 7 has begun—developer testing! The latest version of the world’s most popular Web browser has been released for technical evaluation, feedback, and testing by software and Web site developers.

The Beta 1 release signals that Internet Explorer 7 has reached an important milestone, with a number of key new features and improvements, and is ready for website and application compatibility testing. This release is specifically intended for developers to confirm that existing applications and websites will work well with Internet Explorer 7, and provides an opportunity for developers to give feedback directly to the development team. There will be further refinement between Beta 1 and the final version.

Beta 1 is not intended for broad consumer trial and evaluation but it does offer a preview of some of the benefits that Internet Explorer 7 will offer customers including:
  • Dynamic security protection through a simplified architecture that defends against malware, and new dynamic ways to protect against personal data theft from fraudulent Web sites (a practice known as “phishing”).
  • Improved design to make everyday tasks easier and faster, with better navigation through tabbed browsing; inline search right from the toolbar; shrink-to-fit Web page printing; and a streamlined, redesigned user interface (currently in its early stages in Beta 1).
  • New tools to take you directly to the information you want through support for Web feeds (RSS) that includes automatic discovery of web feeds (RSS) on Web pages, basic Web Feed (RSS) reading capabilities, and basic support for saving Web feeds (RSS) as a new kind of favorite.
  • Platform enhancements for developers to improve compatibility and manageability, including improved support for Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) as well as transparent PNG support.
Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 is available now in two versions: a standalone version for Windows XP Service Pack 2, and an enhanced version that is built into Beta 1 of Microsoft Windows Vista—formerly Windows code-named “Longhorn”—to take advantage of new features of the Windows Vista platform.

To learn more about Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 download the technical overview.

To learn more about the new way Internet Explorer 7 protects you against fraudulent websites and data theft, download the new Anti-phishing white paper.

How do we get to be a beta tester for IE7? What's the guest code?
Thanks
Allison

Just let me know which ones don't work and I'll put *Not Working* near each one, and I'll put as *New*.

What is the GuestID for Vista? I would really like to be a beta tester for that one also.

Allison
ninja812
vista invites were sent out over the connect site and are trackable to the person who it was sent to .

VERY unlikely there will be a guest id for it
Taco Bell
@allifm: This has been covered previously, but IE7 has the same deal as Vista. It's a closed beta at this point which is invitation only, and uses the new MS Connect web site instead of BetaPlace.
newsguy
sad.gif sad to tell u guys, but there is no beta invite at beta.microsoft or at connect.microsoft, the IE7 and Windows Vista beta's are only available through MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network) subscriptions. And just to let u know those subscriptions start at 90 bucks.

@newsguy: rolleyes.gif No, as discussed previously, there was actually such a round of Vista/IE7 beta invites on the MS Connect site as I personally got two of 'em and many other folks got invites as well (e.g. MS conference attendees). It will be awhile though before there's another round of invites.

In the meantime, you can certainly pay to get it from MSDN instead.

Yes, and I love my copy of Vista.

Further newsguy... ONLY connect beta folks have access to Longhorn Server 32bit/64bit. MSDN folks don't have access to those yet. =)

Yes i know about the round that went arround a while ago, but since PDC 05 started microsoft announce that all monthly CTP's of Vista are now to be givven to MSDN. (No info on the IE7 thing though, don't think they are gonna have monthly CTP's of that)

sorry about this, but do I need to be a beta tester (get the betareq response first) to be able to use any of these?
Taco Bell
@splur: No, the general BetaReq stuff is done independent of these specific programs. However, to increase your chances of being contacted directly, at some point, you should definitely follow through with the BetaReq.
