Every so often, I get random movie trailers coming through my speakers (Like Dirty Dancing 2, and other future movies). I don't see any program running that could cuase this.... my only theory is this

I have AIM with DeadAIM... DeadAIM changes the AIM window so the ads don't appear, but he audio still comes through, as do the ads. They just aren't seen, so tehy can still be heard....

Plausible?
Jizzylax
definitly plausible. that's what's happening man.

there's a link to a program at this message board to remove them

haven't tried to ssee if it works though

Thanks..A LOT! When I used to surf the Internet, I would hear these random ads. When I restored AIM (it was minimized), it would go away. Isn't this wrong in some way? I didn't download AIM for spyware. ermm.gif

this is the exact reason I switched over to GAIM. it's freeware, no stupid ads, and especially no AUDIO ADS. AOL is the worst service ever.

Edit: although I don't think you'd classify these ads as spyware.

Sorry to chime in late on this, but that's exactly what's happening dkreifus. DeadAIM blocks the pictures for the ads, but not AIM's new trick of having sounds for them as well. At least not yet. wink.gif

Supposedly, JDennis.net released DeadAIM 4.5 recently. ohmy.gif

Could be PcH. I've been on vacation the past week.

I know that, before I left, I'd been looking for a new version of DeadAIM since the current one (v4.1) wasn't compatible with the latest AIM (v5.5).

Based on your reply though, I checked the site and sure enough, you were right. Although I couldn't tell exactly when this new v4.5 was released.

From the change log, it looks like this issue was specifically addressed too! smile.gif

to remove yourself from someones buddy list..isnt that a AOL server side issue?
i guess ill have to go buy DeadAIM...
Devil McDunnough
don't buy it.

just use peerguardian wink.gif

it blocked AIM ads %100 if you use the latest blocklist. I would also recommend anyone using deadaim 4.1 to get the latest version, uninstall it, or get peerguardian because I've found that when those Video/Audio ads run while using DeadAIM you can crash Windows just by closing the AIM window!
it could be just me, so test it if you can. open the AIM windows when you get an audio ad and close it.

for me it happens to crash aim.exe not the entire OS

what OS you got? I'm on XP pro and I was using deadaim version 4.1 at the time.
it crashes and says WIN32K.SYS died or something.
