Okay, I didn't believe this statement so, as planned, I put it to the test today.
I tried to use my retail XP Professional product key on my work's legitimate XP Corporate setup despite it asking for a Volume License product key, and not surprisingly, it said the following:

The Product ID you entered is not valid.
So I've proven you incorrect GCNaddict since you said it ALWAYS works on retail keys.

Well GCNaddict has now recanted his earlier statement as he's now learned that his local CompUSA uses XP Corporate keys for their demos, so that explains the mystery.

Still a place to "steal" corporate keys though. Not that I would suggest such a thing.
