<img style="float: right" src="http://www.iexbeta.com/images/news/logos/iexBrowsers.gif">Microsoft has long held the title of undisputed champion of Web browsers, but recent research shows the software giant's Internet Explorer slipping in popularity for the first time in recent memory.

Recent numbers from analytics company WebSideStory revealed a steady downward trickle in market share over the past month. Since June 4, IE witnessed a 1 percent change from 95.48 percent of all Internet users in the United States to 94.16 percent on July 9.

An analyst at WebSideStory attributed the dip to the discovery of security flaws in June, coupled with the growing popularity of alternative browsers such as Opera; Apple Computer's Safari; and FireFox, produced by open-source browser project the Mozilla Foundation.

i will always and probably will forever use IE unless it becomes banned for some apparent reason fear.gif its always been the fastest thing to work for me and well...it just works, and i like that. Security holes or not i never have any problems on that end because my system always stays patched up smile.gif and with sp2 coming to final, the new security features that seemed to have moved over from the Win 2k3's IE are now working on the XP platform...MUCH more reliable. wink.gif

Does goe to show when someone is dumb enough to say "everyone is switching to Firefox" just how terribly, terribly wrong they are tongue.gif

I agree winxp64 , never had any problems with it , just I prefer Firefox , its Icon is better in my opinion, and loads most pages alot faster. It also isnt tied to the OS, has less security holes. lick.gif

we will see if it becomes a trend or just a small bump. I seriously doubt the first.

I myself prefer to use mozilla based browsers.. I thouroghly enjoy firefox.

Internet explorer would be my 2nd choice now, but I still use it often because I HAVE TO at work (locked down systems.. but I use my own proxy to access the net.. hehe).

IE is my my main browser because I am more familiar with it. I am learning to use Firefox and all the neat tricks you can do with it. I like the about:config command in FF.

Here's some browser stats:

DJP
Wasn't internet explorer that browser which included features like support for:
popup windows, no tabbed browsing, exclusive dialersupport and spyware and ofcourse let's not forget our beloved startpage changers.
The above reasons made me switch to firefox.
Phonics Monkey
I use IE, I like IE, & I'll be staying with IE.

If a particular piece of malware happens to tick me off badly enough, I seriously consider torpedoing their server. smile.gif

...But I won't switch browsers.

Why yes, my priorities are a bit skewed...And I like them that way wink.gif

Internet Explorer user here all the way smile.gif

I wonder if there's an actual list comparison of the hard core facts about IE, Firefox, Mozilla and so on...as far as supported HTML codes and what not..that way one could determine based on hardcore facts what is ACTUALLY BETTER.

Well, I've tried the latest version of FireFox, and I've seen quite a few page rendering problems. But when 94% of people use a certain web browser, it's not worth shit which one is closer to W3C standards. Most web pages will be designed for IE.

As for page rendering speed, I think FireFox is an improvement over the old Mozilla, but to me it still just feels slower than IE.

I'll play with Mozilla like I do Linux, but I won't be making any switches. wink.gif

Same here...I use IE on sites that require JavaScript, and I use Opera for everything else!

When browsing unknown sites, I never use IE...too many whacko hijack sites out there just waiting for IE victims! LOL

All these "page loading faster" arguments will not hold for me once I get cable. Even if it isn't so, I just can wait an extra millisecond until the page loads. We should make Poll to check: *Out of those who are using IE as their default browser how many actually got attacked by an IE Security Flaw.* biggrin.gif

I made the switch to Firefox about 3 days ago, and loving it.
Thanks for recommending it, GCNaddict biggrin.gif

My favorite parts of it are:
- Not tied to the OS, so less vulnerable
- Toolbar is smaller, giving me more space for the page
- 5 instances of Firefox open uses 23.5 MB of memory.
- 5 instances of Internet Explorer open uses 119.4 MB of memory.
- Hazardous ActiveX scripts tend to not run
- Better "automatic image resizer" (Better shrunken picture)
- Definitely loads faster
- Better icon tongue.gif

Edit: spelling errors

I've always used IE. i think i've tried nearly every browser out there but IE is the only one which supports everything smile.gif
