I'm sorry guys... Even if this is meant for "testing purposes", this is illegal anyhow...

If you want to test your software, look for virusses yourself, or go to the eicar.com site tongue.gif

K2 nicely opened the thread again.

However the mods of iexbeta feel that they do not wish the download link to be listed here.

to test this out you can download the file here

http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=182983

but it would be nice if you posted your results here smile.gif
Singh400
my norton 2004 pro found 591 infected files , and fixed 300 of those files automatically , the rest (291) had to be either wiped or quartined smile.gif
Devil McDunnough
623 files scanned
8 auto-cleaned before scan
429 infected
1 ad ware program found
266 auto-cleaned

McAfee VS Pro v8

I backed up my compy before I did this test and scanned the zip file. after scanning memory it scanned the file but it don't tell you what files inside the zip it's scanning like VS v7 used to. so when that ended it said 46 files scanned( 45 running apps + 1 zip file) 1 infected and next to the file in the window it tells you what viruses it has.
just out of curiosity i unzipped the file ohmy.gif then the auto scanner went insane.
oh well, i feel better now. time to restore for safe measures.
Microshit
587 w/ Trend Micro Internet security with full updates.

I think this is a better test site for antivirus and firewalls like Sonicwall

lol dont ur check the default settings when u first install ?
busman401
It sounds ridiculous, I know, but I know that NOD32 is one of the best around, and I just left it on it's default scanning options. It picks up email viruses no problem, and it noticed this archive when I tried to extract it to a folder, so lesson learned. No harm done, in any case. smile.gif

Eh, NOD32 one of the best? I thought so too, but what the hell does this mean? Take a look wink.gif

This is an older update and I don't see how if NOD32 was running properly how this virus can not either be deleted or quarantined for deletion.

You also might not have it configured to scan archives and all files or else it should have picked up 584 files as infected after the context scan.

Im using NortonSystemWorks 2k3
will try when I get home.

I don't think I should try this on my girlfriend PC.

Its already fucked.

Very good thread though. Glad the mods let it stay. Not sure what they meant about being illegal though.
Doh!
Now everyone that downloaded the zip file , listen up!
I want you to go into the bathroom , barefoot , unscrew the light socket and hold on to one of the wires , don't attempt to hold both wires.
