Im having this wierd problem for some time now and can't find why it started or how to solve it.

I use a program called DiscInfo (http://discinfo.rpc1.org) to keep my DVD-RW drive updated in its firmwares (searches for last original and 3rd party firmwares).

The program used to work just fine, but suddenly one day the main function I use stopped working:

When I hit Search it opened an Internet Explorer and went straight to the web page with my drives firmwares. Now it just doesn't do anything. I don't mind typing the address myself, but it annoys me to know there is something that used to work and is now broken on my system.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Maybe it's because of a pop-up blocker. Try disabling it.

No pop-up blocker active at all, no hosts file block either

Good one you have created your own browser hijacking!
easy fix open regedit search for the url of the web page you want dead.
Replace it with http://www.msn.com/ or something easy.
Exit regedit & reboot.
Should be fixed
