I spent 3 hours downloading stencils & documenting my network last night. I create a network diagram & saved it. When I am on my train ride to work this morning, I decide to work on the diagram a bit more, But, When I open it none of my DELL stencils are there, neither are the IBM ones. "what the F%!k" I roar in multiple languages. If I insert a stencil it disapears<this laptop is asking for it>
Can someone HELP?

TIA,
VADA

I know quite a bit about Visio, and will try to help you, but I need more information.

Exactly what do you mean by "not there"? Like they just weren't opened by default with your document, or you can't even open them manually? Also, where did you put the resulting stencil files on your system? Finally, which version of Visio are you using?

I am using Visio 2002. I had been working on this project for a few days, yesterday I inserted some dell & IBM stencils. When I opened the project just the DELL and IBM stencils were gone. Racks & SUN stencils were still there. When I download stencils I put them in the default NETWORK stencil directory.

When I drop a stencil on the page it disapear if I click on it. I can only see the line you use to resize. But, if I grab the line and drag it around page, then stencil shows up again. ( I dont understand)

I just looked at the drawing explorer and the missing stencils are there. But, somehow they are invisible. <WHAT THE BEEP!>

I FIGURED IT OUT!!

foreground>page-1>shapes>PE2450>shapes>sheet>layer> right clicked on NETWORK = visible

I want to savee a bitmap image as a visio stencil how can i do this?

Stencils cannot be hidden via layers, so you must be reusing the the stencil terminology for the actual Visio shapes that one drops on a page.

Also, there's an easier way to control the enabled/disabled layers. Just go to View | Layer Properties.

As for making a new stencil with a shape composed of a bitmap image, I will get back to you on that.

Hmm, I call the visio shapes stencils
Taco Bell
I realize that, but stencils are actually the containers that hold shapes and that you see on the left-hand side of the screen.

Oh, thx. I figured out how to make shapes out of bitmaps. i will try to post tutorial tommorow.
Taco Bell
Oh yeah, sorry man. I was working on a bunch of IT stuff today at work, and forget to get back to you on that.

Yeah, it's not too hard to make such shapes, so glad you figured it out.

Well, I thought the problem was solved. The disaparing shape I mean. If I save project as a vsd all is well. But, if I save as a webpage. Then some of my shapes will not show up. Does anyone know difference between vst & vsd?

Well that's a totally different problem then and probably something to do with how the shapes were originally constructed.

Hm, its only my DEll shapes and I dowmloaded those from a DELL site which I posted below.

Okay, I'll give 'em a try myself later and see if I can reproduce and in turn fix the problem.

By the way, do you have either SR1 or SR2 applied to Visio?
vada010
I have visio-SP2 installed. I ended up making my on shapes which look better than the ones I downloaded. But, i would still like to know what was the problem.
