Update: October 1, 2004. The Mozilla Foundation releases an important security update for Firefox. All users should upgrade to the latest version of the Firefox Preview Release. A patch is available for current Preview Release users.

Questions & Answers:

How does this security vulnerability expose the user?

A malicious hacker who could trick a user into saving a file could delete files from a user's download directory.

How serious is this vulnerability?

While this is a potentially severe security vulnerability, user interaction is required to trigger potential harm. This security update is also another example of the Mozilla Foundation identifying and fixing security vulnerabilities before they are exploited by malicious hackers. This type of security vulnerability is very different from cases where a hacker could take advantage of a vulnerability to obtain valuable information from a user's computer.

Weird of them to call the update "1.0.1" when the official version 1.0 still hasn't been released.

Taco Bell
Well maybe the official release won't stay 1.0 then BSOD, and will become 1.0.1 or something.

Edit:
In response to post below mine.
I DID look at the download folder. I was just making a ha ha. You know, a joke? Why must everyone think they have to critique everything? With all the cynical and critical people around here, can't believe the world is as illiterate as it is!! Sheesh!!
Hymagumba
it's actually 0.10.1 if you look at the download folder
Taco Bell
Ah, now that makes sense Hymagumba. Thanks for the clarification.

No problem. I'd update the homepage news per the correct version as people might n ot upgrade to 1.0 Final when it comes out if they think they have 1.0.1
bd55
well the update button worked quite nicely. Was wondering what that red arrow meant when i saw it.
