i dont know where to put this, software, windows, so i just put it here,

anyway, I've been video taping on a DV Camera lately (13GBs of Video so far) and when i try to edit it on Ulead Video Studio 7 SE DVD at school, it takes 2 mins (124 Seconds) to drag and drop a file into the time line.
The Specs on all our PCs are P4 1.8GHz, 128MB GeForce Graphics and 512RAM.

So i copied some files home and editing is a breeze (fast). dragging and dropping files is as quick as pressing a taskbar button. Of course my specs are better than the school's at 3.2GHz 256MB GeForce 5900 and 2048RAM.
on my PC In using the standard Ulead Video Studio 8
no "SE DVD"

I tried it on my parents PC, 900MHz, 4MB internal Graphics, 512RAM and its about 2 seconds slower than on my PC. And its the standard Ulead Video Studio 7

so would anyone have the slighest clue why i cant edit the damn videos at school?

the iMac's can handle them great. But the P4s get to near crash ohmy.gif

Well, depending on the structure of the PC it could be several reasons off the top of my head. I don't know Ulead very well, but I do know that the HDD could be fragmented, Spyware installed, Viruses (Less likely than the other two) or the network could slow it down. I have similar issues with file transfer on computers that are connected to a domain. they tend to run a bit slower. please correct me if i'm wrong, but i think it may be a combination of these things.

It has to be a combination of things, of what I don't know.

It could be the cache maybe your home PCs processors are Pentium while the school Processor is Celeron, in some cases the Cache playing an important role.
Fod
cache in this case, i seriously doubt would make a slightest bit of difference.
MoshNet
User error. Just kidding.

I would suspect maybe as said before, the domain/network, but I don't see why it would slow it down when you are doing it locally. Not liek you have the video clips on one comp and are pulling it to another.

I think it is the computers. Are they premios.. haha.
Hasin
their P4s 1.8GHz like i said in my post with 128MB GeForce and 512MB DDR RAM ohmy.gif
Fod
are you sure they are not running a terminal service? in that case all data is going across the network. which is gonna majorly slow things down.

shit, of course that's what's happening.

think about where your profile data is stored!

could be. Oh well, i got a call from the PC shop, my new computer and laptop should be here by friday so i'll just take my laptop there to work at school biggrin.gif
XP_2600
Are you sure that processors are Pentium not Celeron, hit Windows Logo key+Pause/break key to be sure.
Hasin
100% yes.gif
