Is there a program that would log how far your finger has moved over a touch mouse pad on a laptop? So that in tech circles we could brag that
"oh yeah? my finger has gone the distance to NY and back!"
I was just thinking, with the kind of time that we spend on computers...it would probably scare us to know that we have fingered our touch pads miles upon miles...

Actually, I think the Microsoft Mouse program used to track that.. I'm on a laptop now, and it sadly doesn't have it.
And no flaming..its not a stupid request. Id be curious to know how far I've dragged
there's a program built into kde that does it, but yeah that would be freaky to know how far in say miles you have actually dragged your mouse

crap! who'd-a-thunk-it. one man's boredome made more men use a program constantly. interesting. lol
PS: I think you have to add it to your startup folder in the start menu. i restarted and it didn't start.

lol, did it straight away Heart_Attack, just dragged it from the programs menu into the startup folder.
I've done the eiffel tower twice. Though I'm not quite sure how accurate it is
I.m thinkin' that it must be acurate with a certain resolution setting. it seems a bit fast if my calcutations are correct and i run at 1280x1024. not sure though.

i doubt that... I am sure that the programmers took that into account...
edit: u also have to remember that the faster your mouse setting is the faster you go... i.e. if you have the speed all the way up it will take you appox the half the time if you had the speed in the middle
but i think it measures by each pixel the mouse moves over and mouse speed makes no difference; whether fast or slow, you'll cover the same ammount of pixels.
and if this is correct, how many pixels tall is the eifel tower?

lol

OK, I just figured out how to get that window to stop popping up when you boot. Just select the minimized option for startup window (in case you smart guys hadn't figured that out yet

)
Also, now that i have this, i would like to know if anyone can find a program that will track how many keys i type. not neccesarily what keys, that's not my objective, but to track how many i press. thanks
keyloggers?
copy to word,
Word Count/Charactecter count?

sorry, but wrong idea. i want something that will count how many keystrokes i make in a day/month/year/lifetime/etc. like when you are on IM, forums, irc, things like that. or even when i hit the windows key to open the start menu. that's the thing i was looking for. just like this program logs how far your mouse has moved.
EDIT: what would be really cool is if it showed you how far you have come to things like: keystrokes making mandriva linux 2005, keystrokes making openoffice, things like that. just like this mouse program shows you how far up the eifel tower it has traveled, or how far around the world it has traveled. things like that.

This mouse program is cool, but very innacurate. Maybe its based on resolution, but I barely touch the mouse, and it counts me in inches.
I've had it less than 5 minutes, and I've made it 5% up the empire state building. And most of that time, I've been typing
change the default units to centimeters. for one the metric system is better and second when i had it in inches it was also inacurate and when i switched to centimeters it seemed to be a lot more accurate

dont know why

the inches seem to be pretty accurate for me. i'm running at 1280x1024 if that helps.
hmmmm....me too (1280x1024). maybe i was disoriented. wouldn't doubt that.

I have a 19" monitor and 1024x768 res. It seems to be very inaccurate. In like 2 minutes, it says I traveled 8 meters of 300 for the eiffel tower. 8 METERS in 2-3 minutes? No way.

Thanks this is a neat program.
all they need is a daily average meter and a place where you could add distance markers. for example, i want to type in "distance to new york city" along with the distance from my house to said place of interest (or whatever appropriate distance measurement). and then i could see how many times my mouse has been to new york and back from home. or how many times it's paced around my living room.
oh well, so far i'm at 7.88 miles. boston marathon finish line...here i come.
