I have that process running some times, it uses like 110,000 k of mem usage, is it spyware or what? It kinda happends when I play a game, a game that requires lots of resources.. Iam thinking it might have to do with ms antispyare software, I dunno, please let me know

according to google, it seems that the file is related to symantec av 10 corporate edition. do you have that? it may be scanning the files your game is running as they are opened. you could disable the av before playing to increase speed.
ok ic, yea I have corp 10, its not to big of a deal, as long as its not anything bad, and I have a gig of ram, its ok
thanks

it runs when you first boot up ur computer. i believe it's actually just scanning all the files on ur system. it goes away after a few minutes.

i would still disable it to run the games faster.
i'm glad i could help. happy gaming!
it must have a friend becuase another exe called "Rtvscan.exe" also uses around the same amount of memory usage, and even if you disable auto protect they dont go away, maybe they do if you disabled it before it started the scan process, but is Rtvscan.exe with nortan also? this is really starting to piss me off, you cant even end it using the end process button

I think SAV 10 by default has a startup scan listed...
delete it in program and that should help on pc startup

i believe one of them is a constant scan of the files your computer is accessing them (scanning them before launching them) and the other is a pre scheduled scan. i think rtvscan.exe is the prescheduled scan, at least that's how we set up ours. in any case, you should be able to stop either service when it gives you problems.
is there a way it will automanticly not do the scan when I start my pc?
I found this but theres nothing to disable it

i'm assuming you got this from your work place. i assume it was a deal with symantec and all employees got a copy for home use. if that is the case, usually the IT department disables this feature, to "better protect peoples computers". i call this a bunch of balogna (a funny word to spell) and think they shouldn't do this, but they do. unfortunately, if you didn't find a way to disable it it probably isnt there.
if you look under msconfig at the startup items, you may find something in there about a startup scan and disable it, or if you feel like messing with windows' startup ini files (boot.ini, autoexec.bat, etc.) you could possibly find it in there, but i doubt it. i hope you find what you want though.
EDIT: what skin are you using, cause it looks nice.

Yay, I found a simple solution! 11MB RAM usage at all times! Fastest scanning and almost best virus detection dosn't hurt either.
I think I may switch to a new av, I dont like this symantec 10 anymore, 9 was good but this one there putting in these gay ass scans, but I had to use it becuase of xp x64, I dunno if NOD32 supports xp x64, or what other AV apps do.

Here's what I dound while Googling the SAV10 boot scan issue.
...Haven't had time to try any of them.
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Custom Tasks]
"CreatedUserQuickScan"=dword:00000000
Or Just delete the Auto-Generated QuickScan, under startup scans.
(From the SAV10 read me)
Improving client restart performance
------------------------------------
By default, the antivirus client software performs an Auto-Generated
QuickScan when the client computer restarts. QuickScan includes an
enhancement that scans for security risks such as adware and spyware.
This enhancement increases the time required to restart client computers,
and is not configurable from the Symantec System Center.
To improve client startup performance:
1. In the Symantec AntiVirus window, in the left pane, expand
Startup Scans, and then click Auto-Generated QuickScan.
2. In the right pane, click Edit.
3. In the Scan dialog box, on the Quick Scan tab, click Options.
4. In the Scan Options dialog box, under Scan Enhancements, uncheck
Scanning for traces of well-known viruses and Security Risks.
5. Click OK.
6. In the Scan dialog box, click OK.
I think Iam done with nortan though, I need something better, like avast or nod32

avg's nice, so is avast. i haven't used nod yet, so i don't know, but i think there is another 64bit av out there, i just can't remember what it was.
yea there is, it was the first one to support x64, but it wasent a very good av, Iam trying to find one that actually runs in 64bit mode, but I guss none do yet, I kinda nerrowed it down between nod32 and avast pro, for nod32 Iam not sure if I want the standerd or administrator version, I dont even know if they work on xp x64, they say xp, but they all say that, I do know avast works on xp x64
[UPDATE] its offical...avast rocks! its using 12 megs of mem btw

Huh, every body here is on topic except for you and now me, but I would recommend Avast as well.
New001, my post wasent off topic, this whole thread(that I made) has been about nortan av corp 10 and about some of its process's. As you can see thoughout the thread I've been trying to find out what other av's are out there that uses less resorces then this new nortan corp 10 uses and how they compare, my post wasent off top at all, infact yours was the only one off topic

btw avast just picked up a trojan that nortan dident
There is a special symantec reg util you can use to remove this if it hogs the cpu during boot. It can stall out some services sometimes.
