God this tweak from a friend of mine, tried it out and damn does it make it go faster on websites, not sure on downloads though. Give it a try and tell me what you think. smile.gif

If you guys use Firefox or mozilla for your internet browser then you can tweak it to go faster by following the directions.

1. Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit
return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web
page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will
make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"

Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number
like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer.
Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to
"0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before
it acts on information it recieves.
Now shut down your browser.. reopen.. You shouldnt notice much of a diffrence right awey.. But get browsing some of your usual sites and you should notice alot of a faster connection to the site! For me it speeded me up about 5x faster then normal for connectiing to sites.....

Now if you don't have Mozilla Firefox, you should get it. Its a great way to brows the web! It stops pop ups, has many functions, and downloads twice the speed anything would usually download! ITS GREAT, PLUS with this tweak websites can load much faster and files will download EVEN FASTER!!!

Also, search for ipv6, and disable that
Cyfun
Where's IPv6? I don't see it.
canonassasin
That was easy, and I get results!! I'm happy. biggrin.gif

At about:config, there will be a "filter" text field at the top. enter ipv6. It'll come back with network.dns.disableIPv6, set that to True. It'll disable IPv6, and will run quite a bit faster

Yeah, I already did those. It came in a mag article [start frustration] but i can't remember which mag or which month. i have too many mag subscriptions! aaaarrrrrgggghhh[end frustration] ok, i feel better now. but thanks for posting it. now i know where i can actually get this info.

EDIT: a few more things you could tweak to speed up the browser.

1. network.http.max-connections = 48
2. network.http.max-connections-per-server = 24
3. network.http.request-max-start-delay = 0

the max connections is how many connections firefox will try to create to the servers you are visiting, possibly increasing load time even more, and per server is how many connections per server it will attempt to create.

the request max start delay is how long firefox will wait before starting your request (ie: clicking a link).

You know, I've seen that suggestion to tweak IPv6 a few times before, but I never thought it applicable since I don't have that protocol in the first place! wink.gif

However, I disabled it anyway and it's definitely speed up Firefox back to how I remember. biggrin.gif

Now I would also say that when I initially observed its slowdown is the release where that was added and enabled by default. Big mistake there Mozilla! Especially since the Firefox defaults are supposed to be prepped with speed in mind!!! ermm.gif
