Is there anyway to get into a .DAT file and look at the files in it, thats if there is anyhting to look at, becouse my problem is, is with the sim city 4 rush hour expansion pack, it quits at about 57% saying it cant find this file, Radio\stations\mayor\music\sc4ep1_06_m.mp3, i looked in the cd, using explore, and there aint that location, so i am wondering if it could be in one of these .DAT files.

Sometimes you can rename DAT files to other extensions ie; CAB; ZIP; RAR and extract the files within. The best way to tell is the size of the DAT file.

Best would be to open it up with a hex editor and look for any sort of clues in the first couple bytes. A ZIP will have PK, Application has MZ, PDF has PDF.... etc

Well, I wouldn't recommend Notepad. it can be REALLY bitchy about large files.

Yeah I know that, but I meant notepad for much smaller files. It's a great lil app. I'm always messin with dats file in C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\GTA San Andreas\data. Yeah don't try and open anything bigger than 10mb dat file in notepad lol.
