Full Version: System hangs on startup

Whenever I restart my system, all startup programs start fine, but I have a problem with ctfmon.exe. When this service is disabled, Windows starts up perfectly fine. I read on the Internet that this service is connected to Office XP. I am running Windows XP Professional, (32 bit), with all of the updates. To get around this problem, I have to kill Explorer with the task manager, and manually restart it. Is there a work around of this, or do I just uninstall MS Office XP? I can go over to OpenOffice 1.1.5, no problems, if this will solve this problem. Any ideas?

ctfmon is an alternative means of user input and is generally tied to Office XP, but you can also get it from other MS applications.

However, it shouldn't be running as a service and should simply be a launch entry under the following registry location:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

To get it rid of it though, you can just remove that particular piece from your Office installation. For help with doing that, check out this MS Knowledge Base article.
