Cool, installing it now on the work machine, (at work) haha, is it on windows update yet? If not, how long before it goes there? Don't have time to check, just about to leave the office.

Does this cover all the programs that were built with 1.1? I don't mind having 1.1 and 2.0, but if it is possible I would much rather have just one of those installed - preferably 2.0.

Gabe
is the IA64 for windows xp x64?
Taco Bell
@Gabe: Depends. The IA64 platform is for Intel chips and the "standard" x64 platform is for AMD chips, so in your case, you want the latter.

That's not exactly correct. IA64 is for Intel Itamium chips only. x64 is for AMD64 processors and Pentium 4/Xeon chips with EM64T.

AMD called their 64-bit technology AMD64, and when Intel copied it they called EM64T. So Microsoft just calls it "x64." IA64 is for the dying Intel Itanium chips only, and that is a completely different 64-bit processor that is not compatible with x64 and can not run 32-bit software without emulation.
Taco Bell
@Chugworth: Yeah, I left out the 'Itanium' reference for simplicity sake since I knew Gabe didn't have that anyway.

However, I wasn't exactly sure where Intel's EM64T technology fell, so thanks for that needed clarification man. I appreciate it. Now I'm also not as leary about someday moving to it.

Cool, I'll probalby be updating it at work soon. The software we're putting in requires .Net, so I guess we need to figure out if it's 1.1 or 2.0.

PS: TB, your sig looks better since you got rid of that white background yes.gif
Gabe
ok so bottom line is even this new .net framework isent going to work on my xp x64 on my amd64 cpu
Taco Bell
@Gabe: No, bottom line, is you need to download the x64 link like I said the first time around. wink.gif

'cause the "x64 Platform" covers exactly what you have--Windows XP x64 running an AMD64 processor.
Gabe
wow iam slow, I never saw that x64 dl link, thanks for the info taco

if I saw the x64 link I never would have asked the question

Ah, wish my subscription didn't run out. Then again, all I want is SQL Server 2005 Dev and VS.net 2005 pro and I can buy those two for cheaper. Plus, if I do it that way, I can legally do non-dev stuff with my VS.net.
