It's got a spiffy new spash screen!
This is just a guess but maybe it has something to do with vista.

I assume you've at least gone so far Oleg as to consult
the new feature listing for Nero 7, and are therefore looking for first-hand user accounts.
If you have xp 64 bits and deamontools x64 installed, then you need nero 7. Older nero version don't detect your dvd burners once you install deamontool.

I had Nero 7 and the audio CD's were very buggy. Has this been fixed yet?
I am still using Nero 6 as it pretty much does whatever I want to do. Nero 7 IMO is bloatware and I dont see any reason for me to move from 6 to 7.

stickin with nero 6
Also forgot to mention. My dvd writer has HD-burn technology (lets me burn 1.4 gig to a 700mb CD) and f**king Nero7 does not let me burn HD discs as there is no option to burn HD CD's. Another reason why I am sticking with Ver 6.

Is there really still a need for HD-burn if dvd recordables are already almost the same price as cd-r's and offer a much better size-price? I also wonder how compatible existing dvdr players and writers are with those HD discs.
I still burn some CD's now and then using HD-burn and therefore I want this feature. Granted the compatibility part is very limited as it can be read only on readers supporting HD-burn. But it makes no diff for me as I use these CD's for personal use
Seems like daemontools have fixed the nero issues again with the new version released today.
So in that case windows xp x64 + daemontools+nero 6 is also a working combo again.

Yeah, it's mostly full of new bloatware. I really don't need a media center wanna-be application to burn my dvd's and cd's, along with a bunch of other crap I never use.
If what you've got works for you, stick with it.

I think the topic title should be Nero 5 or Nero 7. As nero 6 was full of bugs and itw as even acknowledged by Nera Developer and for that reason they come out with a new version so soon

Nero has gotten so damn FAT.

yah, i really don't understand why nero 7 is so gigantic compare to all previous versions. i have been using them for over 6-7 years now and have always upgraded. when i upgraded to 7 i realized it was a big mistake. however, i am too lazy to revert back.

Jan 13 2006, 15:01
That's because they have decided to add a bunch of crapware in version 7. They have inlcuded shit features that most of the people will prolly never use. They fucking forgot that the reason why a lot of people including myself use Nero is because of the small size of the installation package and no crapware.
Once I feel that Nero 6 isn't enough to get my job done, there is no fucking way I am upgrading to Ver 7. I'd rather switch over to another software which is simple to install and use.

Btw, im using Easy Media Creator 8 for a while and its really good, the advanced CD boot options back which was lacked on Version7, and its reliable.

Jan 13 2006, 16:37
Nero, i think, has attempted to become the all-in-one solution..which fucked itself. I switched back to 6. Unless they undo this crap in 8, I won't upgrade Nero again

I don't think its a bad idea for Nero to beef up their product selection, I do not think they should have bundled it all in one package. Normally you can install the parts you want, like in Nero 6, I thought it would have been the same in Nero 7, So tell me, those of you who have installed Nero 7, did it not give you an advanced option to just install the parts you wanted, or does it all install as one package?
Actually, i do not see any reason whay AHEAD did not make Nero ver7 ONLY burner (making cheaper), and Nero ver7 MULTIMEDIA edition - with all stupid tings in...!? In my opinion - Easy Media Creator 8 comes better now then Nero7 :0(

I'm sticking with 6.3.1.25, partially because 7 is bloatware, and partially because I don't have to ... "search for my registration number"

Yeah, I upgraded to Nero 7 and after a week of using it I was fed up with it. The program, while burning CD's, etc., would freeze up at around 100% o_O which made me very mad. Also, it would close it by itself while trying to stream video from a camera. Nero's video streaming capabilities suck thats why I use Roxio 7 but might go to 8 if you guys tell me its good. Anyways, I downgraded back to 6 and would never recommend it to anyone EVER!!!!!

After I downgraded to Nero 6 I noticed the version I had didn't have the option for burning Video DVD's so if anybody could tell me a version of 6 that has that capability I would appreciate it. I just don't want to switch to 7 and deal with that mess...
Thanks

A nice feature of Nero 6 is that the tools are split into separate packages to reduce the download size, so you won't have to download things that you don't need. Most of the DVD Video features are in Package 2, which is listed on their website:
http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/enu/nero-up.phpI hate Nero 7 also. In fact, for about the past month or so, I have been getting by with just
ImgBurn. Don't expect any fancy features and bloatware though - It's just the basics. But so far it has been all that I need.

Thanks Chugworth I was wondering where all those DVD features that I could've sworn were there went. Oh well at least I got my DVD recording programs back
