how about u get a valid copy of windows???
dazzacole
Jan 22 2006, 08:09
Oh I have one of those. but using it at this point would defeat the purpose of trying to find out how to bypass the windows update validation process on this build of IE7. Obviouslly they are using a new validation method or have hidden the genuine check active x component that use to show up in addons.

if u have a valid copy of windows, u wont care if they changed validation or not, since u have a valid copy of windows. i have one, and i don't care one bit about validation anymore.

I believe he was saying when you uninstall this build it will screw up your IE6, not beta 1.
Anyway, anybody have a solution to my problem with the classic menu being on top of the tabs rather than the bottom.
the issue with mine was styler toolbar messin up the ie6 toolbar. so those with styler wanting to remove ie7, remove styler, remove ie7 then reinstall styler

i've used this new version of ie since i found it and i think its great with no problems i can think of.
it's opened every site i've been to,works on windows update, and anything else i do on my pc without a flaw.
kinda wierd getting used to after using the beta 1 for so long but i never had any problems with it either.
the only thing that bothered me when i installed it was that it left the windows build watermark on my desktop but once i figured out how to get rid of it i'm loving it.
you cant open .xml files with it...well atleast not MSN Messenger chat logs anyway.
try it

It can view XML documents fine. It just has problems with certain XSL Styled XML Documents.

This really is a great build of IE7, beta 1 was so buggy for me, kept crashing quite often, I havent had 1 crash so far with BETA 2, and everything seems to work. Dunno about the "Personalized Favourites" option yet. Anyone had any problems with this? I couldnt get it to work in beta 1

Gotta say that this build is a lot better and a LOT faster than Beta 1

...but I really don't like the new refresh & stop buttons

I kindda liked the combined version from beta 1

i kept getting a cryptographic error or something (saying the service wasn't enabled but it was). it said it couldn't verify the update.inf file (downloaded it several times) so i gave up installing it.

It worked fine for me and I didn't install the .cer file. Then again I was using the local trick.

Well, I gave this IE7 beta2 a whirl, on a nice fresh install of XP SP2 (with all updates) but I'm finding more quirks than I did with Beta1. Sure it has more features, but I'm finding browsing very odd.
A left over problem from beta 1, It still opens minimised when using a local html file as your home page irrespective of it's last state when shutting down the browser.
It also keep missing images. But resizing a webpage with missing images brings them back (makes them visable). So IE7 is downloading them correctly, it's just not showing them every time. It does this to my own site, so it's a real bummer.
First load up of my sites webpage looks like this:

(note this missing heading/logo)
If I then restore down (or maximize) then the logo appears.

I like the new button layout.
Was worth a try. But going to load up my original install of XP as this is driving me nuts. Before I do, will see if uninstalling IE7 does work or not, just for those who say they have problems messing up IE6. Will report back after loading up my normal system again

this build is NOT the final beta 2 build, so i'm sure bugs will be fixed by the time the final beta 2 build gets released in a month or so.

Lets hope so. Before I returned to my usual set up, I uninstalled IE7 via add/remove and rebooted. Didn't find any problems talked about earlier. It restored me back to IE6 without any noticable issues. It was fun playing. I'll wait for the official beta2, then maybe we might even get a release candidate shortly after. Be nice;-)

Anyone notice any problems with WMP10 and/or Office 12? After installing this version of IE7, WMP10 would open, then just lock up. You couldn't click any buttons, anything. But it would still function, like it would find my album info from the last songs I was listening to even though it wouldn't let me do anything. Had to kill it from task manager. I rolled back to WMP9 and it worked just fine. Installed WMP10 again and boom, still didn't work. Found that out in the process of trying to figure out what was causing it.
Also it wouldn't let me uninstall Office 12. When you click the remove button from Add/Remove Programs, the uninstaller comes up saying it's getting ready to uninstall, but then just sits there and becomes "Not Responding". Another task manager kill.
Uninstall IE7 5299 back to IE6 and all was well, WMP10 works again and I could uninstall Office 12. Just some interesting bugs I found. Anyone else experience any of these?
Other than that I really like this new build, some good improvements over Beta 1. I can't wait until the official Beta 2 comes out, should be great.

Even although we are happy for everyone to share alpha/beta builds of most products please dont post a link to this build of Internet Explorer on the forum.
Microsoft aren't pleased with it leaking - we dont want to get into any bother.

OK, sussed out why I had problems with the images. IE7 is far more strict with regards to correct encoding. The label at the top of my site, with...
CODE
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC.....
was incorrect (I had used a ready made Mambo template from another country than my own). I removed it and the logo and images showed perfectly.
I just tried the new public beta and that was the same. However, I have found a bug. I use the Mambo CMS for my website and in the admin control panel, I get a row of links at the top for each function. When you hover your mouse over the labels, you get a drop down menu appear (I assume this is javascript that does this). I found half the drop down menus do not show and the positioning is incorrect too. I have tested the page out in a variety of different browsers and it shows perfectly in all of them. But not in IE7 beta2. (In fact, trying to get the darn thing to work I managed to completely mess up my site admin page and couldn't get it to show at all in the end.)
Only posting this really just in case there is a small chance any of the coders of IE7 at MS read these forums. I know, what chance!
That apart, it is interesting that IE is going more towards correct use of code, how far it's moving I don't know. But I know it's been a nag for many years. Problem is, so many sites have now been designed to work with IE's little differences that if they were to change now, half the internet would be unviewable.
Apart from that, I could not find any other faults with this build
