Quick Tip:
If you want to use this build without affecting Internet Explorer 6. Extract the .exe with WinRAR - find the file
SHLWAPI.DLL and delete it. Then create a new text document then rename it and its extension to
IEXPLORE.exe.localYour good to go

Note: This also bypasses the validation.

I don't think you need to uninstall IE7 Beta 1, if you are using the 'local' trick. In that case you should be able to run IE6, IE7 B1 and IE7 B2 side-by-side.

when i tried installing beta2, it kept telling me to uninstall beta1. i'd rather not keep ie6, and beta 1 on my system.

can it be installed over b1? or can ie6 be reinstalled over b1 and then b2 be installed?
*btw darkjedi, wlm froze on me last night, when I woke up and it was using 480MB!

I cant uninstall beta1 as well, anyone got a solution to uninstall it ? i deleted the uninsatall information btw.

Jan 20 2006, 18:34
open add/remove programs, then check the "show updates" at the top. it's listed near the bottom to uninstall.
RanCorX2
Jan 20 2006, 18:43
well, I can't remove it with no uninstall files, tried the local trick, still said remove ie7b1 first??
tried running iexplore.exe but it opens then quits. seems lame that you can't upgrade
but if you bypass the validation surely you can bypass the install check. found a slightly different trick here
http://daydream.wordpress.com/2006/01/20/t...thout-updating/ doesn't work either.
ugh I hate service pack installers.

RanCorX2
Jan 20 2006, 18:59
hope so, some users on neowin says uninstall b1 first

when i've already explained everything.
There's a no-install version now: {Link removed by Taco Bell.}
Finally a working version, at least on XP SP2.
RanCorX2
Jan 20 2006, 20:51
^ doesn't work, just loads and quits. I was going to try just replacing all the installed b1 files with the b2 files but noticed there are extra files, and though hmm probably screw up xp. has anyone managed to hack the installer yet?

Dunno, but I'm gonna guess it was the same person that gave him that dodgy vista build and the vista sidebar. place your bets people
ReflectiaX
Jan 20 2006, 22:21
The person who gave him the sidebar from PDC is a different person than who gave him the build... which is why this is so comical to me, neither of those kids would give Jack another thing, I'd think... unless they didn't care. I mean, after all, it's just another IE7 build, big whoop.

BTW, if you are running a side-by-side install of IE7 B2 and IE6 - you will have the problem described
here when trying to use IE6. To fix this close all instances of IE7 & IE6 then run the regfile posted below.
CODE

if it's not to much trouble

ill warn you to not install this build. Upon removal, it will completely screw up you're IE6. Well it did to mine. When i open IE now (v6), it opens 2 windows, 5 instances in taskmanager and CPU shoots up to 99% and takes about 5 mins to even force kill the processes.

The person JackC got vista 5259 from(I will not say the name) did NOT give him permission to leak it! The person who gave the vista build to him didnt want him to leak it so I doubt he would have given him ie7. He propablly got the ie7 build from a chinese website or person, I know a few people had it, just look at the screen shots because most of the 1st screenshots posted are of websites in chinese.
hmm, those who saw my post at the NGs lol, i ended up talking to an ms employee who tells me and a friend as well that ms has contacted its lawyers about *the person leaking these internal builds* so yeah... just a bit of info
edit: and oh since all these releases were public, ms might have a hunch on who the person is too i suppose..but what would i know, im considered a noob by some since i couldnt even work a keygen for xp pro vlk on my xp mce 05 machine.

I've got a question about this build. When I click to view the classic menu, it appears above the tabs, which is backwards, at least from the way the vista build has it set up. Anyway, it looks bad there. Anyone know how I can fix this? I tried just dragging, but that doesn't work of course. Thanks.
unlock the toolbar
right click, "Lock Toolbar", uncheck it

Jan 21 2006, 23:16
I had it unlocked, I just can't drag it to be under the tabs.

Jan 22 2006, 04:10
Does anyone know how this version validates on the windows update site. The genuine check active x control doesn't seem to be there anymore and hence can't be disabled.
Taco Bell
Jan 22 2006, 04:22
@dazzacole: To bypass validation, look at
this previous posting.
dazzacole
Jan 22 2006, 04:41
So are you saying that works for validation on the microsoft update site.
Singh400
Jan 22 2006, 04:56
That would depend on your copy of Windows XP, not Internet Explorer.
Taco Bell
Jan 22 2006, 05:02
@dazzacole: No, as I misread tbe question and was really saying how to bypass the install's validation checks.
For the actual Microsoft Update web site, I'm not sure. Worst case, you may have to use that side-by-side approach and fall back to IE6. Depends on the capabilities of this IE7 build and the legitimacy of your Windows XP installation.
