that macbook looks pretty abused for something about a month old. look at all those scuff marks!

Huh, i wasn't sure about magnets in a laptop for other reasons, but burning never occurred to me. Think it could be down to user-abuse? As Fod said, it looks pretty beaten in (though that may have happened after the poor guy found it burnt out

)

Hmm. apple bribing him to cencor them is out of order. If anyone has the images saved, mail them to the inq or the reg. Let it all out

Eh, I have mixed feelings about Apple. I like their products, and think they're good, but you pay a lot for the brand name, and I've dealt with a falty iPod (however Apple were very good in responding to my claim). If I had a MacBook Pro, and it burned out, I'd be REALLY angry, especially because they're so expensive. If you pay a lot of money, you expect a quality product.
to be honest, they're really not that expesive. compare their price to the acer 8200 series - there's really not that much difference in price, and the specs are very similar (albeit the macbook beats the acer on looks, size and weight. looks you can decide whether it's important to you, but weight, that's worth extra to me).
the days of apple being overpriced and underwhelming are over, IMO.
anyway, this is going offtopic, and any replies in this thread concerning this will be branched. start a new one!

Yeah, you've got a good point, but I'd still be pissed as hell if it burned out on me.

Ahh the good old days with decent 1970 electronics. (really, it looks like a dirty kitchen hood from the seventees)
Anyway it looks to me the connector didn't fit for 100% causing little sparks between the laptop and connector
